You guys and gals AIN'T gonna believe what I saw Saturday. I was at a boyscout camp in Barksdale, Wisconsin with my son over the weekend. We were standing in Chequamegon Bay (that water is DANG cold) for my son's swimming test. I was standing beside my son's former cub scout leader and we heard what we thought were some jet skis coming. One sounded "different" like the old carbs on the snowmobiles (the way they used to bark). They got closer and pretty soon we could see them come around the point. I looked at them trying to figure out what kind of jet skis they were. I looked at the guy standing next to me and he looked at me and we both said at the same time "THOSE ARE SNOWMOBILES!!!!!" We watched them go about 4 miles to the end of the bay and then they spent the rest of the day playing at the end of the bay. I don't know what kind of track they had, but they sure seemed confident on them. I have never witnessed anything like that before but it was kinda neat.

Seriously though, that seems like a good way to lose a lot of money. Something goes wrong....or even if you just let off the throttle....and all of the sudden you find yourself riding on the back of an anchor.
If you tie a milk jug to a rope and the handlebars, if the sled goes down you have a locater. As long as you get it turned off before it goes under all you need to do is drain the fuel, oil, pull plugs, pull rope (pump out the water), refill fluids, start and go again. At one of the lakes here they have grass drags and a water race every year, as long as we have enough water. Just don't get the drive belt wet, or you will sink like a rock!

No Nat, I ain't still takin' pills. Sometimes I wish I was........... Job is going OK, waiting on a job that I want more though. Hopin' to go from a plumber back to an HVAC/R Tech.
in Kamloops sometime in the early- mid 80's they had a fair and as part of that they would race up the river on their snowmobiles. For the most part they were making it only a few hundred yards, untill one year this gut went a few miles up the river. It was the talk of the town for a while...
Thanks Tom for the update. Although we get lots of snow, it rarely stays long enough to cause a problem, so I can't remember ever seeing but one snowmobile and it was for sale. I had no idea they could stay afloat at speed or otherwise. Seems each winter the news down here does a story of someone in Michigan drowning on a snowmobile. I learned something reading this post.

I've been racing (non-professional) on water for years now with many trips to the bottom of the lake. The big thing we do now is put a ramp in the lake and see how far we can jump without sinking. Basically freestyle.
