question for the old people here

I have a temporary tooth to replace one that got broke. Its one of those cosmetic, plastic pop in and out jobs.
My question is how long does it take to get used to having food between it and your mouth? Im washing it off everytime I eat or get something to drink besides water as it seems to retain an after taste.

All us old people just use the temporary teeth as a place to keep the little bits of food as a snack for later in the day.

Go to a different dentist. Call first and tell them what is bothering you, then go to the one that has a reasonable solution. Might as well have the teeth sharpened and the gold polished while you are there. Good luck.
I am a bit long of tooth myself.

I guess I need to start looking at all the threads for the old guys. Here's a warning to you younger ones. At 40, things start falling off. I told that to a buddy who didn't beleive me, till he had a major emergency surgery at 40 and 2 days old. I used to be invincible. But after my 8th surgery, I'm beginning to thing maybe not. I've probably spent more on doctor bills than some of you have on your trucks. Thank God for good health insurance and good doctors. There really is a diffrence in each of those areas. I can't imagine sometimes how people make it without either one.

You said temporary? What's to be the final solution?
Bridges, plates, etc are a poor fix and troublesome! Implants are the way to go!

Don't know...still have all my teeth.
But have a good friend that is a dentist! Just repeating what he quotes from his patients. Most everything is cheaper around here than other places!

When we lived in Arizona, most of the old folks at the RV resort went to Mexico to get their fangs fixed. Good dentist, and saved a lot of money.

The wife had three implants and some jaw bone work done. The dentist wanted $10,000. I told him that was not going to happen, I'll look elsewhere. Within two hours his office called and said he would do the work for $6000. Try dealing with your dentist like he was a used car salesman. A lot of people don't know most dentist will deal with you on prices.

Just got a full upper and am in the process of getting a partial lower.. they are gonna run me around a grand after insurance.
my insurance wont cover implants and they would have run me close to 15K....IF I could get them.. since I lost most of my natural teeth to traumatic injury, and the jaw bones have been fractured several times and such, my surgeon told me I might not be able to have implants, but the only way to tell was to "try it and see if they hold"....not for that much $$, I don't think so.......

Back to the question. I get it replace with a permanent one. It will only get worse. the permanent one will get plaque built up underneath it but that can be cleaned if you go in a couple times a year.

You really need to take care of the teeth. My oldest son who is just 40 recently had all of his teeth removed. Painfull to say the least. Too much soda just rotted them out.

I had a permanent bridge on my lower front 2 teeth since I was 18. I lost those playing football. At 60 it was removed due to being damaged playing baseball. The removable one I got lasted 2 weeks ...wrecked it playing football. I have not replaced it as I get along just fine without it.

At about 12 yr of age I was shot with an arrow. This cost and eye tooth initially. Now many years later one on each side of it.

A hockey puck in the right cheek eventually cost 3 more teeth.

Now I can only chew on one side and I'm at risk of loosing the remaining teeth on the right side. The dentist says that without major oral surgery I'll lose them.

So take care of those teeth.

The hardest part I have to live with is that I had to give up eating sunflower seeds. Dang what do you do when you are playing baseball??

I had to use a flipper in the middle of waiting on dental surgerry, now this wasn't the best for me, but may work for you, try some fixodent in between the temp and whatever it goes up against. It will keep it settled in place, and also is handy if you sneeze, cause let me tell you, chasing a flipper across the floor is no fun and kind of embarrassing !
