Tickets written under state law here, go to the judges retirement fund (other than a small sur-charge to sheriffs association for road patrols, which they are NOT constitutionally bound to provide)... far from the intrest of any trooper to get dividends....
In Mass, all I know is that 95% of the ticket goes to the state and 5% is returned to the town as an 'administrative' fee. Some of the state's cut goes to the courts victim/witness fund but how much I have no idea. The rest of it is anyone's guess. The old timers used to joke that it went to the fund that they were saving to put indoor plumbing in the state house.
Wheres a moderator when you need one? This topic has strayed way too far from what the initial poster had started/asked. I wonder if I can start a George Foreman Grill versus that new Hamilton Beach Grill now?

So why are LEO's being laid off in droves with the bad economy if their paychecks come from the revenue they make writing tickets? There aren't less cars on the road and people aren't speeding any less, so there shouldn't be any effect on LEO's jobs if the revenue is staying the same, which it should be because writing tickets isn't dependant on a good or bad economy.
I do hope you realize Im not (for once) trying to stir the pot.

All of the revenue in our state goes to the education system and the courts. It's an endless cycle but the good news is that you have a choice to not be a provider of that revenue. Pretty simple if you ask me.
Show me some proof on that. I'd like to see you guys back up some of these statements. Until then, it's merely an opinion without merit.
If you are saying that it isn't based on revenue, why don't you send the ticket money to charity then?
Untill you stop collecting money for tickets it will allways be about increasing your revenue.

Jack, I know that there are no quotas these days. But is there still a recommended number of public contacts that you should have per month.
I know I just opened up a whole new can of worms.

I can make 5 or 105, it doesn't matter, and there isn't anything they can do about it. I take my calls, and stop people who I think are being unsafe. As long as I'm doing that, then I will never have a problem.

As to the original question I have used whistler products for years with great success. All radar detectors are good for is about 10 over. Any more than that the speed of the guns processor and your reaction time and breaking, you can't get to anything slow enough to not get noticed. Even with the valentines. Stay away from Bel's they are over prices and had several models fail me.
Now back to the Valentine...I prefer a CB...I rarely exceed the speed by more then 5 mph and quite often I am averaging 5 under. The CB tells me when theres an issue whether it be an accident, a LEO on the side of the road, a chase, a deer on the road etc etc. The CB has saved me more then any radar detector I have owned. If I did buy another one, it would be the Valentine. When running commercially, its illegal so I gave the last one to my neighbor. The need for one is not there for me anymore. Even the units that have road hazard warnings are not as good as the cb...JMHO.
