Pop-up security warning??

We have had this Dell 8250 for a couple of years now, and run CCleaner and AVG virus programs.
yesterday I started getting pop-ups from the MSN security center... find it VERY annoying! got a little yellow triangle flashing in the program tray, and about every ten minutes a pop-up saying "you may be infected with...." If I click on the pop-up , it takes me to a website selling "antivermin" and other spy ware programs..
anyone know how to get rid of it????

well you have a spyware on your comp, ( you know thsat already) i use yahoo's antispyware. go to yahoo's download page and load their new tool bar it has it , and take about a min to do a scan and remove that for free.thats why i don't run msn messenger on any of my stuff, leaves to many doors open in your computer.

you are infected with the winfixer virus, it is nasty . it probably has already disabled your antivirus or caused it to error. you need the following programs to get rid of it. SMITFIX, ADWARE SE and HIJACKER to start. Install Adware se and make sure it is updated. Boot system into safe mode run smitfix first, then adware se and then hijacker; unless you are computer savey, hijacker will cause you grief. All else fails bring it in to local computer center.

First thing I'd do is get rid of AVG. It is JUNK in my opinion.

I just got rid of that virus. i tried Ccleaner, Adaware se, and Spybot search and destroy. none of them got rid of it. what i found to be the best way to get rid of a virus is to go to performance and maintenance and do a system restore to date before you had the virus and thats it. i ve did this twice for two different virus and it worked both times.
