Pokey Okie Drivers beware

Saw this on CNN: Click Here for Video

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is going after people who drive below the speed limit in the left lane. As of right now, they are issuing warnings, but in the near future, they will start issuing $206 tickets

Going slow probably not an issue for anyone on this sight

From what I understand, it a law in most states. I know in Germany, you get cought "driving" in the left lane you're gonna get a ticket. The left lane's for passing only. Of course, my dad was a trucker so all those "rules of the road" were instilled into me early on. lol

Some other states also enforce keeping slow drivers out of the left lane. "Keep right except to pass" is enforced in some states. Washington state has pull outs for slow drivers on several 2 lane roads. "They have enforced "the delay of 5 vehicles must pull out."
Common sense and traffic conditions have a lot to do with how things are enforced.

I know Illinois has had a similar law in place for the last 2 years. Driving in the left lane for more than 1/2 mile without obviously trying to pass will get you a ticket

I just wish that they'd fix the right lane!! Sometimes the left lane is the only place to drive and still keep your teeth.

Now if they can just re-educate people to what a yield sign means to go along with the left lane rules things will get much better on my commute.

Ahhh knew this was from experience on our wonderful roads in OK! I definately drive in the left lane on HW69. If someone is driving faster than me I move over and letthem by then get back over to keep the kidney damage to a minimum.

Yield means: speed up (or slow down) so that you try to occupy the same space as the vehicle that is currently in the lane you are trying to merge into, right?

Uhh, no.

It means: Come to a complete stop at the end of the entrance ramp until you finish putting on your makeup and drinking your coffee. THEN pull out in front of a speeding semi. Or at least that's how they do it down here.

Rules? there's rules for driving on the roads?, they seem to be an option here in AZ.

People that cruise in the left lane are not nearly so dangerous as the ones that whiz past on the right/blind side, or those that take whichever lane is an almost open shot at the moment, rapidly darting from one lane to another, in an effort to be the first to the graveyard.

We also have the 'keep right - except to pass' law here. It is truly tough to stay in the right land getting beat up all the time when the roads are in poor condition.

The town of YIELD is what I call it, everyone stops at the town of yield. The also stop at the town of MERGE. Just as many men stop there as women, I have been behind both. I think the pull-offs are great things for slow-moving vehicles, too bad no one uses them.
