Pictures from work.
Heres a few pictures from my work, none were taken by me, employees other than management can't have cameras on the property. The first is a company picture of all our shop employees (I'm the third person on the left side (In a blue t-shirt). The second and third are of our most recent remanufactured locomotive. One is the finished product and the other is what it looked like when it was sent out for paint. I spent 6 months on that switcher overhauling it.

I think an SD38-3 (the orange engine) holds about 4000 gallons of fuel. The SW1001 ( the yellow engine) holds 2500 gallons. When they reach a million gallons the company rebuilds them.

It take roughly 10 years for them to reach 1 million gallons. Our engines only run from NW Indiana around Chicago almost to the Ill-Wis stateline, so they don't put on many miles each year. They do idle alot, rarely get shut off during the summer and are never shut off in the winter. They do use up some of fuel just idling. I would try to get a few pictures of the locomotives torn down but its very hard to take pics of them because of company policies.

Yes we run EMD 645E 16,12, and 8 cylinder engines. We have a few 567C's running around still but most have been repowered with 645 powerpacks. They are some pretty impressive engines. All of them are 2 stroke and have Roots Type blowers, they like big 6v17 Detroits

I love raw power.
