"what would I do??"

I say wait right here while I go get my truck. Then I have him bend down by the exhaust pipe to listen for the turbo while I rev it up and ask him if he thinks his mods will help me. Then I rev it up and pump the throttle a few times.

Shoulda asked what kind of grease to use in the muffler bearings.

I see the same thing in my profession, I also tend to be more of a listener and more often than not I just shake my head at some of the stuff I hear.

I do alot of pack trips with my mules and had guy (he always had something better than you) one time that bragged about his string of 13 mules no wait it was 11 mules on the next story, any ways he had a "double britchen" set up for his pack mules. I still laugh at that one from almost 5 years ago.

We used to have a vendor come into our shop once a week. Knew everything. I noticed one day he had a giant belt buckle. Said he was a rodeo champion. I asked him he he ever got bucked off and landed on his head. He said "nearly every time".

There are a lot of people out there that just don't ask enough questions and he sounds like one of them, which brings me to this point, his ignorance was probably caused by ten or fifteen other dummies out there telling him the same crap he was spouting off.I like to ask questions and see how many different answers I get,but I like to ask questions to which I already know the answer to even more,a tried and true method for separating the Bs from fact, then you start to learn who to trust.

The world is full of stupid people if you dont believe me look at all the powerjokes running around

Oh and by the way my cummings has 3000 hp 6000 ft lbs torque with the wrapped intake and that computer programmer for the 12 valves, I also have high speed muffler bearings, an upgraded air infibrilator, 250 hp stickers, upgraded halogen fluid reservoir, and a new cummings kunuder valve. Best of all it still gets over 100 mpg I do have to do a rebuild every 500 miles though

Personally, I would have suggested he buy a Ford Power Stroke.................

At least he wouldn't be a fish out of water.

Yup!!! I've got a guy here at work that I warned, preached to, gave him information and wouldn't you know it he still went and did exactly what I told him not to do. Then comes back to me afterwards and wants to know why he isnt competitive...I've stopped offering my advice and experience to folks like this. I only have so much time in a day to get things done and people like that need to just learn the hard way through their pocket book.

Matt:

I agree with you Sir! Over the years it has been one of THE MOST frustrating things I come across on our trucks with other diesel owners!
Like you, I have stopped offering the advice too, unless it is a friend of someone I already know. One thing I always tell them is that I have already been the "guinea pig" in alot of ways and to use me as that example so they don't have to spend the amount of money I have and also have the "headaches" on the bad choices I made.

Hey, don't laugh at those 50-hp stickers... I put one on top of the other on my truck until they were almost an inch thick.

They're stackable.

Fortunately, I don't have to deal with too many morons like this guy or I'd have a hard time with it. I don't feel sorry for these guys only for their families and basically anybody within ear shot. Besides being a know it all, in this guy I see someone with absolutely no respect for his equipment. It frustrates me when I hear stories of these guys who just continue to break stuff needlessly, in an attempt to show off, because they have enough money to just throw around. If someone really has that much money to throw into the wind why not do something practical with it instead of continuing to bomb your truck the wrong way? The worst part is he's proud of it. I hope this guy doesn't get mad at the truck and kick it when it fails on him. He should be kicking himself.
