of the people for the people
Thanks for the quote ramloving............... I found a cozy home for it in my sig.
I got another one for you:
CAP these Presidential campaigns! Anyone know how much it cost the people of the US to have "W" run all those smear commerical to combat Kerry's equally stupid commercials? I'm afraid to guess, but I bet it is an obscene amount.
If there was a reasonable limit put on how many MILLIONS a candidate was allowed to spend (his own money or not), the process would be more fair. I mean really, do we need to have them campaign for a year + before we vote? It's a slap in the face to how our forefathers intended the Federal Govt. to be.

I love it!
You guys all have more common ground that you think

I also agree with PJ, the whole idea behind our system was to be governed by the people, not just the fortunate few. I think having professional politicians is the reason for so much corruption, but unfortunately I do not have a cure for this problem.
And while some very short sighted individuals would have you believe it is just a problem with ONE political party, corruption can be found everywhere.

First of all, to say something on subject, wealthy-dominated politics has existed since the begining of time. We aren't going to fix it.
And, err, yes entirely...
I would love to see the kind of publicity stunts that Kerry and Bush would have pulled if they weren't well financed. Without money the main way to get media attention would be for John Kerry to drive his Bronco down the freeway and hop out and give a speech when at least three helocopters start to follow him.
Realistically, people will always just run ads in one candidate's favor or another, so there will always be (and there pretty much always have been) very well financed campaigns. It's fair between the Democrats and Republicans, but the lack of capital on the Libertarians and Americanists really puts the hurts on their shots for elections.
So what is the solution? For Libertarians to all deliver speechs while perched on skyscrapers apparently ready to commit suicide. That would probably even up the odds with the donkeys and elephants, woukldn't it?

A heathly beating with the Clue Club may calm the quick wit of the liberal'est of members.................
My brother in law has a new Bumper Sticker it reads:
ANNOY A LIBERAL:
Work, Succeed, Be Happy.
The statement actually annoys me, although I don't consider myself a Liberal.
Go Figure?

So true, but I dare say that it is probably A LOT LESS than in many, many, many other parts of the world. I will readily admit that I am too quick to criticize and complain, but I will also tell you that I never do it just to disagree, but for the sake of trying to look for a way to improve. I may never find it myself but perhaps somebody at the end of a discussion may.
More importantly when all is said and done I always ask the most important question as should ALL:
Is there a better place? Is it done better somewhere else? (Sure there may be some aspects of LIFE that seem done better in other places, SOME, only SOME.) Overall, my answer has aways been NO.
Peter
Some here have the advantage of haveing been in other countries to see how it is/was there. Therefore their perspective is formed from a different view. Many today, most, have never been off the American shores.
In the '60s I spent a year in Germany, five months in Britan, some side trips. This was Europe, not third world countries. At that time they could not hold any comparison to the prosperious life that we enjoy and the freedoms that we also enjoy.
Britan, probably the closest to our form of life, driving around in peanut sized diesel, noisey junky cars, if they could own one. A good pay check was $80.00 a week compared to the $300 or better a week that I made, in the same line of work, and expenses just about as high. I considered a European discharge which would have allowed me a year to be there before shipping home. Decided against it.
I am not downing the life that other countries lead, but most would be very glad to have what Americans take for granted and are always complaining about. I wish that all Americans, especially those the constantly berate our officials, could have the experience of spending time in other countries for a comparison.

American's have always trounced their officials, complained and been ignorant of the other side of the pond. And it was that attitude which was present during the roaring 20's, during the roaring 50's and during the roaring 90's. (I'm saying that we really haven't changed in the past 200 years, except for the massive expansion of government under FDR and an increasingly socialist stance toward government.)
Considering that we have such a better life than the Europeans have (although the gap is diminishing), I say that we have to be doing something right!
And due to popular demand, I shall now terrorize www.USPOLITICSONLINE.com for all things political. Well, maybe...

Government controlled by the people? WOW what a concept!!!
I seriously doubt that that would clear a Congressional hearing, The House and Everyone in the Senate would Filibuster, The legislature would never pass such a law and we have no right to vote on the things that they pass daily!?
Besides, why bother, we do not really own our property as it goes to the highest bidding most finacially influencial developer able to provide the most tax dollars to your local economy! Thank you Supreme? Court!
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, we have all been Screwed by the very people who we elected to, " look after our best interest
", and then chose to cater to the highest bidding special interest group willing to re-elect them
to their non term limited posts!
So come on by kick your feet up have a beer, or bring one and we'll talk about diesel trucks for a while

All it did was pass the decision on taking property down to the local level.
In my opinion this good, local government is much easier for the public to express their feelings to and vote out if they don't shape up.
Happened in a town close by me recently when the school board voted to ban teaching evolution in their public schools. In the next election every board member who voted to ban evolution was voted out and the ban overturned. Some of the board members had been in office for decades.
I'm for anything that gets decision making back closer to home.
Evolution, is that the system where first there was a fish then an ape, then infidel? Maybe they have come up with some of the missing links that disprove it. Oh well.. There has never been a link established between man and ape, its just a hypothesis that Darwin believed in and is now taught as fact. I don't know exactly how man was produced, but I doubt that is it.
The evolution debate.

This very same "fight" went on in my county in regards to Text Books.
Seems that some people just can't grasp the thought that a THEROY is not fact, but mearly an idea that really CAN"T be proven wron!!
Try this, (no I'm not a Satanist). Prove that Jesus was not in fact the son of God sent to die on the cross for our sins. Easy, there is no-one that can substantiate it with any materail facts or prooof other than what a Book tells them.
Now,
Prove that we as humans "evolved" from something other than what we are today, SIMPLE!
Look at the very basic FACT (Yes, no faith required) that humans are an average of like 5-7 inches taller today than they wee a mere 200 years ago????
Sounds like a Theroy that would be hard to prove wrong to me............
I'm still not sure why Christians get all upset when you mention the topic? It's not like God can't be the one that is causing us to change and gorw as a species, right??
Sorry Haulin, common sense prevails, Our school system allowed the new text books that offer kids some real data and archeology>sp? to back up their theroies.............
Evolution, creation, don't ask me, I don't know and neither does anyone else.
At this point though I feel they should be given equal time in our schools.
Banning the teaching of one or the other does a diservice to our kids.
