Paging Madhat.... or any other Marines
So what is the true protocol for holding umbrellas?
We all know that n0bama had a Marine holding an umbrella over his head and the guest Prime Minister. Hear stories on the net but want to hear from true Marine's.
Please keep it non political.

IAW MCO P1020.34, Male Marines are not allowed to hold umbrellas while in uniform.
While I don't like it one little bit, regardless of my political affiliation, if you are a service man or woman and the president tells you to do something (short of moral or ethical violations), you gosh dang freaking do it. Those Marines looked good up there no matter what anyone says about who else was up there.

Thanks Mark!
And yes, if the president asks you to do something you do it and ask for how long! Even if you don't like it.
Thanks for the response

A marine wouldn't dream of protecting himself from a little rain, snow, or even small (under 6") hail with an umbrella.
He will, however, be a gentleman and shelter a frail woman, or any other wuss that needs it with an umbrella.

Great to think about, but the Corps has a long standing tradition of being the best, I wouldn't want our brotherhood to be dismantled for my actions...
