Approved.

Yikes, I have only seen that happen once on a toyota. Frame split in half like that while it was off roading.

Our pool guy pulled in with a new truck the other day so we got talking. Seems the chemicals they carry rotted the frame out of his old one. He went to take off from a light and the truck broke in two pieces. It was also a chev truck. 4 years old.

The chemicals sure do eat away bumper chrome...

And anything else...

I think thats (in part) by design.
Its been a long while back, but I remember reading threads about trucks being built with weak points in the frame for collision purposes. The frames are suppose to buckle in certain places during either a frontal or rear collision.
Looks like the stresses imposed on that frame were great enough to exploit the designed frame weaknesses.

If what I remember is correct or not, Id sure hate to be the guy who makes that first call to the customer!

I know on the longer wheel base trucks that putting a snow plow on and a salt shaker in the back can bend the frame in a similar way, only not as bad.

Many years ago I was visiting a friend that was working the graveyard shift at a Full Service gas station. The phone rang and it was a fellow about 15 miles up the Interstate wanting a tow truck he said his car was "broke".

Thinking maybe I could bring out some parts and get him on his way I asked him what the problem was. He again replied it was "broke"...I said "what were the symptoms when it quit running?" He said, "look the dang thing is broke! just bring the tow truck!'

I grabbed my buddy's tow truck and went to get him, when I arrived I see an old rambler wagon "broke" right in the middle laying on the road he was right, it WAS broke!

It looked just the opposite of that truck with the belly dragging the ground, Frame was rusted clean through.
