Oops!
My money's on it being a stick. If it was an automatic, the first gear from "park" is "reverse"... BUT if he jumped in, stabbed the clutch and hit the key...
Plus, unless the kid was lying about not being in the truck when it went through the wall, the Cummins-powered beast did it at an IDLE. :0

That's just total B.S. I've seen to many stories that scream for attention. Did you notice the "aftermarket parts" line ? What a bunch of total junk that is.
Now before you roast me, yes there was very little info there in the whole story. He could have had a command start on a manual tranny that wasn't hooked up right enabling it to start in gear. Or it could have been something totally diff. But does the reporter know this? Prob. not, just seen some big tires, fancy wheels and has to add that line of garbage. I haven't seen the truck or know what he has on it but does the reporter know what was on the truck? What casued the crash?
But like i said i've seen to many stories that claim to false hopes just to sell papers. I've seen them about big bad bikers do this and that, just cause the dude wears a friggin leather jacket doesn't mean he owns a bike. Some young kid with fancy wheels on his car gets in an accident, headlines scream Rice rocket racer in crash, OMG just has to be the kids fault RIGHT?
I've given up on my local newspaper for trash like this, even the Enquirer is starting to print more truth than them.
Sorry for the long post, rant off, just had to get that off my chest.

Very interesting.
Number one is directly from ap newswire link that I saw late last night on Fox.com and Cnn.com (yes I read both along with Aljazeera.net english version, Reuters etc).
Number two is the more embellished version that turned up later.
1: That's when the lifted truck roared through the motel's brick-and-mortar wall, pushed aside a bed and went toward Icenhower.
2: That's when the lifted truck - complete with "aftermarket" parts - roared through the motel's brick-and-mortar wall, pushed aside a bed and went toward Icenhower.
