If you think about it there are probibally 5000+ cranes in use every day, I bet that there is at least one that falls per week, just a guess on my part though. The only one's that you hear about are one's that have bad property damage or loss of life. I know that I have personally seen a crane fall over, no damage to anything but the crane and the item that he was lifting, but it was not even in the local paper. We just called out a wrecker to pick it back up and that was the end of it. Just my .02

No, it's about birds. We have quite a few cranes here at the farm, most of 'em around the pond. I didn't know there was a nation-wide problem with them falling over tho. I just went out an' looked at the ones here, an' they're all still standin' jus' fine. Maybe the ones tippin' over have some kinda 'bird-flu' that effects their equalib... equil... equelab... balance.

It happens far more often than you think but it generally doesn't get past the local news when it does (if it even makes the local news). When it kills a lot of people it gets national attention. I once worked on a job where we had FOUR different cranes collapse (at different times). Fortunately the worst injury from all of them was a guy who sprained his ankle trying to get out of the way.

As a side note, crane collapses are almost ALWAYS the result of operator error.

Yeah, we had the same problem with cranes around here but after the BATF busted the neighbor's still and the fumes quit drifting into the field the problem went away

Probably buying imported skyhooks to hold them up.
