Old Chevy PU questions

Anyone ever own the likes of a 65 Chevy C50 truck? found one for a hayburner, flatbed, 6cyl??? 305, I would guess?? or straight 6?? probably get it for $1500 in useable shape.
These capable of pulling a 6k trailer or several tons of hay? Not sure what a C50 is rated at.
5 ton?
Thanks all.

My uncle had a 57 Chevy on a two ton chassis. I dont remember what teh model designation was, but I would bet the C50 is either 1-1/2 tones or 2 tones. I doubt 5, but I have been wrong on one occation before.

According to the 1963 Chevy Truck FSM and the 1964 SM supplement, the CL50 had a GVW of 10, 12, 14, 15, or 16K depending on how it was equipped and a GCVW of 25K. It used to be rated as a 2-ton but that changed in '63 when the 40 series was discontinued and the 50 series became the medium duty 1-1/2 ton. The C60 is the 2-ton for that vintage.

I'm not sure for 1965 but for 1964, if it's equiped with the original 6-cyl, it should be a 230cid L6 gas or the 318cid V6 diesel. Original V8 would have been a 283 but the 327, 348, and 409 were also available in the larger models in '64. If the engine has been changed, it could be just about anything since Chevy kept things so interchangable for so long.

We used to have a '65 C50 equiped as a moving van with a GMC 305 V6 in it and it seemed like it would make a decent medium duty hay truck.

Let us know what else you need to know.

I have a '68 GMC owners manual that has some interesting info for that 305 V6-636 V8 engine family such as bore & stroke, ignition timing, valve clearance information I can post if needed.
