Oklahoma folks, what about Guymon
Oklahoma folks, what about Guymon
Looks like I'll be doing a pipeline job out of Guymon starting in August. Since it's about 700 miles from home I won't be driving home often.
Anyone familiar with the area, anything to do like fishing, hunting, explore on horseback, etc.? Looking at the map, it's easy to see why the area used to be called no-mans land back in the 1800s, LOL.
Also, haven't decided on using the hunting trailer to live in for a few months or hotel. Any headsup on places to hook up a travel trailer?
Thanks, RR

I don't really have varment gun, long guns consist of a 300 win mag, O6, 6.5X57 and a 308 mdl 100 Winchester.
But free ammo and I could sure make room for a new piece.

i think they have a feedlot out there. stay away from those they don't smell real good. especially after it rains then starts to dry out. unless you're wierd and like the smell of cow poop. then you'd have a hay day.

Im from about 30 miles west of woodward, if you need any names of good hunting grounds (or game wardens) around there, PM me, Ill help you out! As for Guymon...lots of sunscreen, and lots of bug repellant will be the best way to go
Oh and dont expect any hills or trees for that matter..

Thanks for the offer ratat98. Once I get out there and see how much free time I have, I may take you up on that info offer on places to hunt. Also got to check on the non-resident hunting cost. Are deer tags over the counter or draw?
It does sound like if it's not the end of the earth, you can at least see it from Guymon.

the 300 win mag is probably the best choice.
If I have to go thru there, I leave my house late in the day and try to make west oklahoma and the panhandle of Texas at night. Its more interesting if you cant see it.
Interesting thing about that area. all the vegatation leans to one side because the wind blows so much and so hard, it looks like its blowing all the time.

I've never been to Guymon but we do drive though the Texas Panhandle every fall on our way to Montrose, Co. by way of Amarillo, then up though Delhart, Clayton up to Raton. I'm familiar with the type country and I agree, after one daylight trip, night is best. I have however seen some of the most beautiful sunsets imaginable in that part of the country.
I was just thinking about the mid October trip to Montrose and I'll have to leave the job, drive 700 miles east, then load up for the 3 week trip/hunt to Colorado, then head back west just missing Guymon. That's gonna make for a long weekend. When we get back, it'll be the same trip in reverse. It'll add 1400 miles to the hunt on my truck anyway. Instead of a roundtrip of 2500 miles, it'll be 3,900........Man this work things not all it's made up to be.
