Depends on your definition of who THEY are. As shown in my post immediately prior to yours, the oil companies don't set the prices - the traders do. If you're referring to the traders as THEY, then I'd agree. The oil companies are selling their product into the market at the prices established by the marketplace (and, yes, there are speculators in the marketplace who have driven the prices up).

Wayne,
Every industry, unfortunately, will have greedy executives.
Actually, I think I'm quite relaxed, thanks. I've just tried to interject some objectivity into a purely emotional thread. Your concern regarding coronary and pulmonary health might be better spent on some of the other posters.

Regardless of how the price is being driven up, in the end the cost is going to be passed on to the end users.
delivery costs, plastics, paints, steel ect. So much for the tax cuts doing us much good?

Agreed.
So, now that you've politicized this thread, exactly how is George W. Bush responsible for high oil prices and what can he (or any president) do to lower them?

Well at least you don't have the high price of fuel AND the higher tax rate to deal with

How ever you will never convince some people that this is not due to the current administration, or maybe even because of some voodoo politics.
I bet every sitting President at one time or another wishes he were 1/10th as powerful in manipulating the country as they give him credit for
Until the market drops we are stuck with these rediculous prices on fuel, and expecting our Govt to step in and regulate the prices would be fool hardy thing at best.
