oh lucky day !

I got a pretty big ticket yesterday in Caroline County, Va. for "wreckless/by speeding" which equates to 81/55 mph ...I have heard that Virginia has cracked down hard on speeding, and have had plenty of experience with them, on the matter. Hence I don't go more the 5 mph over the posted limit. My insurance co. loves me, as well as the states I travel thru. I know it is a matter of public safety, and if I didn't "break the laws", I wouldn't have to be concerned, BUT , I, as others feel the jurisdictions are just doing what they can to squeeze ALOT more dough out of us, that pay their salaries. Driving is a priviledge,eh ? Then why is there money attached to it ? Insurance is regulated by states, and then they require it. These traffic cams, for speeding, and stoplites, are plainly a money making venture for them! WE pay for the **** equipment, and the local govs ream and reap ! ***! I'm gonna need a lawyer for this one ! As SHE was walking back to her patrol car, she asked why I was going so fast, so she could write it on the top of the ticket, for the judge. What difference does it make? They're gonna git their money, regardless! It was a funeral 3+ hours away. And I didn't see one other patrolcar the rest of the trip down, or on the way back ! Commonwealth ? Just my "lucky" day!

As said before you play you pay. I'm glad all the fines are through the roof. I personally don't want someone running over my son in his FordEscort with a giant dually, flattening him with a 600 pound pipe bumper. Remember that your not the only one on the road. You can never predict what is around a corner or over a hill.

Speeding tickets and fines are to generate income; it's not about safety or protecting the public. If you don't believe that, you havn't been paying attention.

It's easy to sit behind the key board and say, "it's for the children". But in many instances, 81 is a perfectly safe speed. In some places, 81 will get you run over by faster traffic. I drive at 80-85mph pretty often. And so does the rest of the traffic around me.

Wrong is wrong and speeding is speeding. It was against the law before you did it. Some day you'll learn the things you thought were important enough to be in a hurry about aren't really so important.

My rule of thumb is 9 or 19 over. So if caught doing 56 or 64 in a 55 it's the same ticket.
Most LEO's that i know won't bother you unless your going 12 over or more.

Road speeds are designated for many reasons through out the Country. The amount of accidents is one of the major factors.

One some roads it is due to the road itself and the subgrade below it not able to sustain high speed travel causing premature breakdown of the materials.

Other places it is due to wildlife and their paths crossing the road.

Other times it is for the safety of nearby houses and the people who cross the road.

Other areas it is for the safety of Farmers and their equipment who may travel down that road.

Your right sometimes it is a cash grab, but if you speed your still responsible for knowing you were speeding and responsible for paying the fine. If you feel that the speed in the area is to below what it should be then you can present your case to the local council/traffic safety and have them re evaluate the speed limit. They may either agree with you after more tax money is spent to research this, or they may disagree and lower the limit again due to the research. or they may leave it the same.

Good luck, when you say everybody loves you, you must mean they love the money you pay them extra for breaking the laws and having to pay up.

"Most Times" VA State won't even look up unless you're >20 over the posted speed.
81 in a 55 is a "little over" a 20 mph difference.....ya think?

You might not need a lawyer in court if your driving record is clean.
The judge could allow you to attend driver improvement classes.
If you have tickets recently,....... you might wanna have an attorney standing with you.
At the very least, he might get the charges/points/fines reduced.

in Michigan if you go 81 in a 55 its considered reckless driving, they can throw you in jail for up to 93 days, put 6 points on your driving record, and fine the crap out of you. so it looks like you got off really lucky.

I leave early so I don't have to rush. Relax and listen to radio and you will get there. Tickets cost but insurance goes up about 20% for three years making it pretty expensive. Why give yourself all the stress?

speeding

The BIG fines are to get your ATTENTION! you were breaking the law. trying to tell people that they are poor drivers is like trying to convince parents that they have ugly kids ! You can`t do it! So the only way you can get their attention is to hit`em in the only place that hurts, the wallet. the more people they can get to drive within the speed limits, the better off we all will be. Quit sniveling about the $$$, and pay attention to the posted speed laws. if you don`t like the posted speed limits, get the laws changed to make your speeding legal! meanwhile always have a smile on your face when you sign the ticket and pay the fine. if you have a habit of getting speeding tickets, you`re a slow learner.
