North Carolina

OK, here's the deal.........
Wifey has "Decided" for us that "we" are going "house shopping" this weekend.
We retire in about 5 years and she wants to scope out a new location, and possible puchase a house/land now.
When I inquired about where, she stated "North Carolina & Warmer Climate".

OK......Now I gotta find an area to head for this Friday to appease SWMBO and spend next weekend looking for a suitable area and checking out houses for sale.

HEEEEEEELP!!!!!

Youse guys down "south" of here,......where should I look.
Cities?, Towns?, Neighborhoods?, Real Estate agents?, houses for sale?????????
It's all fair game at this point.
My wish list,....about 1-2 acres, with a BIG garage (3+ cars), Oh and around 4 BR, 2 bath house (prefer Brick)
I just want someplace to head for on Friday morning with a full tank o diesel.

Near the coast is as far south as you can get in NC.

Won't be much warmer than where you are I don't think

The mountains are nice though. Tough choice.

JKE, you have PM.

Wifey has now authorized S. Carolina as a possibility.

Any input?

My wife is from NC. She has relatives living in Asheville. I tell you, that is one beautiful area. I love the Blue Ridge parkway. One day I will drag my Harley up there just to say I rode a motorcycle on the Blue Ridge.

I would go to Virginia if I had to do it all over again. Somewhere like Charlottesville. I love that area.

That was the Mine & the daughter's idea Jack, Wifey thinks she wants someplace further south.
I'm still trying to change her mind.

North Carolina. Love it here! We got coastline, we got ski slopes, we got Blue Ridge Mtns. Some areas are better than others, Jack must still be having trubl with some neighborhood kids...
I wish I had known you were looking Shovelhead, we sold our place last week. 5 acres with a stocked trout stream 5 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway, sorry about that. The economy here is depressed big time with Lowe's moving its corporate headquarters from North Wilkesboro to Mooresville. Lot's of empty houses at below market value prices they tell me. Here's a realty link with some pics if you're interested. Applefield Realty

I'd like to find a place around Butner/Creedmor area. Nice and quit plus it's close to the 1000 yd range I shoot at.

My dad wants to go up around Ashville or in that area.

Another nice thing about NC - they don't tax retirement pay.

Ed, you have a PM.

I'm sure you'll still find what you're looking for. They're houses for sale buyers hear about only by word of mouth, and some of them are not listed with a realtor.
I'll bet some DTR members can help.
If NC remains high on your list, there’s three climates. Coastal, Piedmont and Mtn. Coastal +15 degrees warmer than the Piedmont, and Mountain about 15 degrees cooler.
If you decide on a visit, let us know and we'll make room for you. Nat

Ed - you have PM.

I prefer mountains for the wildlife and the scenery. Fishing is good. We need to know if you want country or urban setting. restricted community? open pasture? woods? Lots of WMA land here. A man can stay busy outdoors here. 3 shooting ranges close by. Our corporation cosiders this a desirable area. People turn down promotions to stay here and one would be very lucky to get the opportunity to relocate here.

If you would like to visit, I will make arangements to give you a tour of the area. I will be happy to help out. Just let me know.

John

Ed,
I've got an old goat barn on the back side of the place you can have. It's a nice solid fixer upper. I'll even let all 5 g-kids come visit ya, for free.
