No more tires for me from Walmart!!!!
This is JUST MY EXPERIENCE!! But it could and to some degree, affect you!
When I bought the tires in December, I had some issues. My truck went up on the jack at about 4 pm and they started to pull the tires. Me and my bro sat down to watch the movie in the little room that they had. Well one of the mechanics comes in and says I was missing a lug nut. They had some and it would cost me $5 extra for a 4-pack. Ok I said, put it on the bill. Well the tire I chose were Goodyear Trackers 235/85 R16's. Being discontinued they were on sale. I also bought the extended tire protection plan for and additional $10 total. 1 year free replacement minus the pro-rate. They get 2 tires done and about a hour later a manager was called to the auto department. I look at my brother and said hmm. The lady walks by and gets with the mechanics and the department manager. Well as they are talking I am watching them hoping to read there lips (I can do that to some degree) but they are behind the racks of oil. Well they all walk in and the lady manager says "Our compressor just broke. We will give you a discount for your inconvenience." Ok. Now it is about 5:30 pm. So after awhile she comes back and says "We are going to have to take it to another store. It will be about 45 mins at least." "Well, me and my brother are going to go have dinner. We'll be right back." I said. She says to bring the tab and she will pay for it, but very grudgingly. When we get done we go back there and nobody is around. Everything was shut down. So now it is around 6:30 when someone come back there. I ask where the guy was. They dont know. so they call up the other store, about 25 mins away. He had just got there and they were getting the 2 tires done. Well they roll in a store model air compressor and got that to work. So the other guy gets back and they put it on. I go to pay and SHE says "$405"!!!! I said huh??? Well I got the lug nuts free and the tab picked up. I said "Alright. Just let me get out of here." I get home after 8pm that night!!!!
Today I went in to get the front left tire replaced because of a leak. I was suspecting a nail as we live on a farm. So I go in and and ask the m to do it. Ok, it will be about 45 minutes at most. Well I get called abc there a half hour later. Is there any special way to start the truck asks the department manager. "Naw, the clutch hydraulics went out 2 months ago. The switch is really touchy. Just hit it to the floor a couple of times and it should start." So he goes to start it and viola, she fires right up. He pulls it in and the guys lift it. I chuckle and a guy, who was waiting for a oil change, looked at me a little weird. I said my truck was idiot proof and told him why. He about near busted a gut! They pull the tire and spray it. The mechanic came in and said that it was too close to the sidewall, they were goning to have to replace it. I said no problem. The manager says they had to check the tread depth and charge me the pro-rate. The MECHANIC said "What??!! He gets a free replacement since he has the warrenty." The guy cooly says "Not anymore. The plan, as of 5-19-2007, only has a 3 month warrenty. Since you bought the plan we only charge the pro-rate." I said "No. I bought the warrenty to cover things like this, like the other guy said." Read what it says on the back of the sheet. I read it and it said everything that he just said. That it only covered pro-rated price. "Well, what about me rear tires now." They had pretty much got to the point where they need to be replaced. When I found this out, I check the pressure and it was 80#'s. The receipt said they filled it to 60#'s!! They overfilled it in my book. So he goes and checks them. Comes back and says he needs to check with his manager. Calls him up and come back to me. "We will give you half off new tires for the 2 in the rear." I said "WHAT!!!!! I have to pay for your mistake!" HE said "You should have checked them when you got home and reported it to us." I said " Nuh ahh! I expect that you put the right tire pressure in when I get new tires. My truck was up in the air for 4 hours! I didn't have time to 'check' them." "Well, then within the following week you should have done that." "Forget the other tires just get me out of here with a new front one." So he checks the old tire and writes down the tread depth. Then he goes to his book and looks up the new tire. Now as he is looking the mechanic rolls in the new tire for "my inspection". The manager writes down the depth for the new tire and started to look at the calculations and the mechanic frowned. He goes to the new tire and checks its depth WITH THE GAUGE. He says "Bob, this tire has only 14/32 of tread , NOT 16/32 of tread." Bob looks back at the first pages and says, not very convincing either, " Oopps, I made a mistake." So he does his calculations and said that I was going to be charged $30. I said "Why? You only wrote down $20 on the ticket." He said that since the tire is NOW out of warrenty (3 months vs the old 1 year) I would have to pay the flat tire repair. I growled "Just get it done now!" So he tells them to do it and goes elsewhere. (I found out he went to lunch!) SO the mechanic and I chit-cat about cars, trucks, wheels when the receipt printed out. He looks at it and asks "Did you pay $120?" I said "NO! HE told me $30!!" So he calls another guy in to change it. Josh comes out and presses a few keys and told me to wait. Another manager is on his way. SO he asks me how much I am paying. I said, truthfully, $30. The other mechanic gives him the paper with the estimate and helps another customer. Josh told me it says only $20. I told him about the flat tire repair. He says "Well, all I have is $20 written down." and charges me so. I get in my truck, go around to the back of the building, make a 2 right hand turns, put'er in 3rd gear and smogged them!
Anyone else had bad experience with Walmart tires and/or there stupid managers? Well, after all of this, I am NOT EVER going back to Walmart. Also if you bought a extended warrenty from them over 3 months ago, kiss it good-bye. They do not honor the old one.

Jon
PS, The mechanic said if I wanted anything free from them, like tires, bring in a lady that can get worked up about there service. They get it replaced immediately vs escorting a guy out for making a fuss. He also said they used to give LIFETIME warrenty for tires 2 years ago.

I had issues when I wanted tires for my commuter car. They said the only ones in stock were the much more expensive models, when I had just seen that size in the sale rack for approx. 2/3's the cost. When I poited it out, the guy turned red and said he must have a bad computer. He then proceeded to tack on all kinds of extras, driving the price back up, even though the signs posted around the register and on the tire racks said those items were included in the price. I left and got an honest deal for much less money at my local Firestone tire center, with two very capable Kumho tires up front.
I was second in line one morning to get 4 new tires, the guy in front of me was getting his oil changed. I was there 2 1/2 hours after they started on mine, they get behind on oil changes and they quit working on your tires
and go do oil changes.
and go do oil changes.
About 15 yrs ago we needed tires on the wife's car. A local gas station/mechanic quoted me about $190 mounted, balanced and ready to go for 4 goodyears. We had been to Sam's 50 miles away (Wal Mart owned) and saw General tires for $27 apeace. I'm thinking $150 tax and all and good to go. Went back a couple of days later and got tires and took to the auto center. 3 hrs later there finished and billed me $230. I told them I'm keeping the old tires for a trailer but still had to pay a disposal fee
plus I don't kinow what else. I will never buy tires @ Wal Mart/Sams again! PERIOD!!!

Pretty much walmart's auto section = the Devil's playground. I can never find anything I need and when I do they only have 1 and it is messed up hardcore. I don't like NTB either, when I went to get my 35's put on the rims I wanted my rear 33's that were already on there put on a set of spare wheels to do a massive burnout with. They refused because they were so low on tread, I told the dude "I know they are, thats why I want them on SPARE wheels. I just want to do a burnout with them visible from orbit." No matter what I told them they wouldn't do it because of liability, I told him "If they pop and I roll in a ditch and catch fire don't worry, I WON'T sue anyone." Why is it people go around sueing everyone they see and cause inconviences to the rest of us? Oh well... lol
My major gripe with ALL tire stores is when they use an air wrench on the lugnuts instead of a torque wrench. When this is done improperly it will warp the front disks. I recently had 2 new fronts put on my car and a week later when I detected the pulsation from the warped disks I checked the lugnuts. on the left 3 were super tight and 2 were loose enough to take off with my fingers. On the right 4 were tight and 1 was loose.
Now I watch them like a hawk and I refuse to let them put the lugs on with an air wrench. If they don't have a torque wrench I make them use a hand wrench and tighten them in the proper sequence. They grumble about it but if they refuse then I threaten to report them to the BBB. I also don't go back if they give me to much crap about it.
Some of these places hire the kids who are to dumb to work at WalMart.

Well, I am going to a guy whose just started a shop about 5 years ago. A nice set of BF's AT and Eagle 058's, $950 installed with chrome nuts and caps
The mechanic at walmart there says they are always under staffed. But I also noticed they took there dear sweet time getting the tire off checking it, getting the new one down, dismount the old one, the remount the new tire, balance, and put'er back on.

well, walmart is all about the being the cheapest on everything. Why would anyone think they would get anything more than what they are willing to pay for? I have never shopped at a walmart for anything and never will.
I get my tires at Les Schwab.

I used to buy all our tires from Sams Club, but got tired of them changing brands/models on me(and prices!).
DISCOUNT TIRE is the only way to go anymore. ALL they do is sell TIRES and wheels, not mattresses, lawn furniture and other hard-lines in addition to tires and batteries like Sams Club.
I won't let Sam's touch my vehicles anymore since they botched the "free" Optima battery install...
From now on, it'll be hand remove and install batteries the "old" way.
PITA, but at least I don't have to repair Sam's Club's damage to my battery hold-down clamps!

I have had all sorts of issues with walmart.... When I change the oil in something, I always write the mileage and date on the filter... took car to walmart for oil change because it was winter and i didnt feel like being cold for 20 minutes while changing oil..... well, the next day i had a hunch and looked at the filter.... sure enough, it was the old filter with the mileage and date on it..... they denied everything...
showed them the recipt, made them take the filter off and look at it....
then they still wanted to charge me for the oil change.....
Change all oil myself now... even if its cold and snowing...
As far as tires, theres a local tire shop that I like... I will even stand in the shop and talk to them and put the tires on after they get them mounted....
At least I know the job gets done right that way..
