No gravy???

I thought I would share this with you all. It seemed rather odd and frankly un-American.

I recently took a plane ride from Tampa, FL to here and had a stop in Dallas, TX. While I was there I went to TGI Friday's for supper. They had a nice steak with mashed potatoes on the menu. I asked for it and for extra gravy.

The waiter told me they didn't have gravy. No they weren't out of gravy, they NEVER have gravy!

I changed from mashed potatoes to french fries but just wasn't the same.

What kind of restaurant serves steak and mashed potatoes with NO GRAVY? In TEXAS yet! To add insult to injury I had to eat it with a plastic knife and fork.

Sheesh!

Edwin

That is unusual. Especially in Texas. I don't care much for gravy though.

TGI Friday's has very good mashed potatoes. They have more than enough herby-garlicky-buttery flavory without any gravy, and the gravy would probably drown the flavor that they're naturally endowed with.

Yummm.... TGI Friday's....

You gotta know that anything in Texas can't be normal. Just look at BigBlue, who needs to take his truck for a visit to the Jerry Springer Show Chappel of Love. Then you got Hoss, who I personally think has snorted to much concrete mix, cause I can't even repeat some of the stories I've read about him. Somethin about gender, thongs and livin with somebody he calls Top just to name a few.

TGI Fridays has silverware and gravy. Somehow they just knew you weren't from around these parts so they gave you the outsider treatment.

"No Gravy" yea right. Even Starbucks has gravy around here.

Gravy of all varieties =

Unusual to not have it in the south though. They use gravy on just about everything, don't they??

Need to order a chicken fried steak if you want gravy in Texas. It's good old sawmill gravy.

Jerry Springer? I'm shocked. I would never let my truck near that ****. It might start getting ideas and back talking me.

I can't help you with the gravy, but you can thank homeland security for the plastic fork and knife. Ever since 9/11 airport restaurants had to limit their silverware.

I might have to. I've brought half and half in for my coffee because I can't stand that artery clogging powdered stuff.

I can understand Outback not having gravy in someplace like New York and TGI Fridays is a yuppy place also but in Texas? There ought to be a law or something in Texas for crissakes!

Well...you can think your friendly neighborhood terrorist for the plastic knife and fork thing.

Regarding the gravy...are we talking steak or chicken fried steak? If it's chicken fry, then good cream gravy and mashed potatoes is absolutely essential and TGI Friday's should be run out of Texas. If it's a steak, then you should have ordered either a baked potato or garlic mashed potatoes (which do not need gravy). Basically, it's your fault.

I wouldn't. In fact it came with a nice raisin sauce which was quite good. But it also came with mashed potatoes and I was raised with good skillet gravy put on mashed potatoes. I got freedom fries instead.

As far as I'm concerned, gravy could be its own food group. There's just nothing better...
