New vw diesel pickup

I might break my rule of never buying a new truck when this one hits the showroom.

From what I can find on the VW Amarok, they go for $35,000 in Europe, and are scheduled to be sold in SOUTH America, but not here..... at least for now.

Looks like an interesting alternative for the 1/2 ton crowd.
Kinda VW's version of the 'Exploder" Sport-Trak.

Not much bed room though..........

Edited for photos

Reminds me of a Honda Ridgeline. Does it get the V10 diesel?

Appears to be another knock off like their van which is a Chrysler. This does really resemble the sport trac.

I just want a 4-cly turbo-diesel, 5-speed, regular cab small work & commuter truck.

Keep it under $20k, with 4wd only as an option.

That I could look at.

When we were stationed in Japan I shopped for a little diesel to run around in. I was originally trying to find a Hilux truck (diesel or gas) but where we were, there were none used on the market in our price range. Not wanting to drive a Hilux (4Runner) like everyone else I ended up buying an Isuzu diesel.

It was a '96 Isuzu Wizard w/ 3.1TD (4JG2). (known as a Rodeo here in the States). It was a solid little SUV. I got 23mpg city and a little more on long roads.

Oh wait, the big 3 say no one wants anything like that.

Sorry, couldn't resist slipping that knife in their back.

Funny isn't it, how the Big 3 "knows" so much about how to build veichles that the people are just really wanting to buy. Then GM execs state that they would dominate the car market again "If we could only figure out how to build cars that people actually want to buy." I tried googling this, I think that quote is from Wards auto world, somewhere around 2008; it's likely been wiped off the internet by now.

I've been told, by a Ford product engineer, that a 4-cylinder diesel Ranger would never sell in this country. Stated as fact. I asked him...how many farmers have you asked about this? He had no reply.

It's the same for the motorcycle market too. Overseas has some great bikes that will never make it to the US. Why? "No one will by them". Ummhm....right....
