The only problem I ever had with Glocks is the ergonomics of the grip, its just too blocky for my hands to get a good shooting grip quickly.
I carried a SW 645 ACP with Pachmyer Combat Elite grips, for years on end and loved it, but now carry a Sig 226 40. That ole' SW was my duty weapon its been throuogh the mill , never gave me a problem and I bought it when I retired. Now carry the Sig for the state and the SW off-duty.
Second the post about the realy good retention holster......

I'd have to agree with you on the earlier Glocks. However, the Glocks being manufacturered now have different grips than what they used to and they're much more ergonomic. Finger grooves and the whole nine yards. The G22 fits my hand SO well...which is one of the reasons I wanted it.

Do not use reloads, and do a search on frame rails to make sure your serial number is not one of them.

IMHO, Speer 155 gr gold dot is a decent self defense round.

Also, if you get a chance to take a Glock armorer school, it is worth it.

I would also suggest a holster with a good retention system that fully covers the trigger guard.

My last suggestion, go out and enjoy the new gun!
The problem guns on frame rails were some of the older Glocks from the E series of serial numbers. My understanding is that this has been resolved and should not be a problem if you do not have a serial number beginning in "E".

Regarding reloads, I don't reload and I would never buy reloads from anyone else so that isn't a problem.

On ammo, I'm leaning towards either the Cor-Bon 135 grain JHP's or the Speer Gold Dot 155 grain JHP's. I've heard good reports on both.

Haven't thought about going to a Glock armorer's school but it might be worthwhile.

I agree that a good holster is a must. I'm currently using a leather OWB that I previously used for my Glock 27. However, I intend to buy a FIST kydex holster for the G22. I had one for my G30 and loved it. Excellent retention and it held nice and tight to the body. A trigger guard is a must of course.

Even after not being cleaned for 4 weeks, it still shoots great. I've shot a kimber and a ruger of the same caliber and I still come back to the glock. I can't wait to turn 21 so I can get mine.
Blue, my dad has a 23 that he really likes. I've shot it several times now and shooting that gun is really what inspired me to sell my G30 (.45 ACP) for a G22 (.40). The G22 has a little bit longer grip than the G23 so it fits my big ole' hands better. Were it not for that and the fact that the G22 holds 15 rounds instead of 13 like the G23 then I would have gotten a G23 instead. The G23 is certainly a nice gun.

I tried a newer Glock out at the last range and stilll thought it felt a little like holding a peice of 2X2 stock in my hand....
There is no arguing the are a fine weapon, I guess they just arent for me personally.

Well...I suppose they're certainly not for everyone. That's okay though...as long as you're carrying SOMETHING.

Amen to that... one of the hairiest situations I ever got in was off-duty when some " gentleman" I had arrested ( for agg assault btw) recognized me and figured if I was off-duty I was fair game. And yes, he went BACk to jail...idiot.....
With me being a County Deputy and the wife being a city officer, it got where we had to drive to another town to go out if we wanted to relax.
I figure its like my American Express Card,

Never Leave Home Without It....

Back to the ammo thing...

Cor-Bon 135 grain JHP's have a 1300 FPS velocity when fired from a 4" barrel and a muzzle energy of 526 ftlbs. They also use flash suppressant in their powder.

Speer Gold Dot (recommended by many) 155 grain JHP's have a 1220 FPS velocity when fired from a 4" barrel and a muzzle energy of 496 ftlbs. Like Cor-Bon, they use flash suppressant in their powder.

Both are probably great rounds, but Cor-Bon seems to have the better numbers. However, it's my understanding that the FBI uses Gold Dot so it must be pretty good.

That said, I'd prefer the Cor-Bon but it's probably going to come down to whichever one I can get for less money (so I can shoot lots of rounds of it to make sure it's reliable in my gun).

Any thoughts?

I have had my Glock 22 40 cal for over 2yrs with no problems & many manufactored rounds threw it. My concealled carry is a little 32cal Keltec with hollow points. Fits nice in the front pocket of my jeans & no one can tell your packing.

Took my 22yr old daughter thru the gun saftey course a couple of yrs ago to get her CWP. She shoots a colt 45 & quite well.
Don't mess with a 5' 2" 120lb blonde she's nice 90% of the time but watch out for pms.

Hoss,

I popped an injured deer in the head a week ago with the Speer, and it penetrated fully (I can't stand to watch an animal try to walk on multiple broken legs). Couldn't really tell if it expanded. Several brands were test fired when we switched from a 180 grain to the Speer, and it just seemed to group a bit better and every gun we tried ran fine.

I think you will find your gun will run fine on any quality factory ammo, and either of the choices you mentioned should be great.

Personally, I have a G27, 22 and early 17, however I really like the 10mm and 45 full size guns. The 10's in particular seem to be super accurate, and the frame fits my hand well.

I ended up just teaching her to shoot my 12 gauge. You can't hardly miss with a 12 gauge and there is nothing more intimidating than the sound of a pump shotgun being pumped. That alone will convince most folks to get out of Dodge.
My wife had never shot a gun so teaching her was pretty easy. From what I've seen women have so much better trigger control than men. I would load her up with an empty cylinder she wouldn't even flinch. I think men are usually started out with high recoil guns and most men jerk the trigger (I catch myself doing it) I started my wife out with a .22 and we worked our way up. She's deadly with just about anything she shoots.
My whole family went through the CCW class (mom, sister, wife, myself) and by then she was very comfortable handling and firing a handgun. It's a good thing she can shoot I could sleep through someone stealing the sheets off the bed

I have a G22 that the rear frame rail broke....

I took it back to the dealer and glock paid to have it fixed and assured me that it will not happen again, they had a bad batch of rear frame slides that came from a contaminated metal....

they were very timely and nice about fixing the gun...even gave me a bunch of stuff to, I got a t-shirt and very nice jacket out of it...

Other than that one thing the gun has had some serious ammo sent thru it and it still performs very well....

the glock is a great gun for your average gun person...not that I do it but I know of a few people that have and carry glocks and have NEVER cleaned them and they never have problems....I wouldn't dare to try that with my kimber....

glocks are some of the toughest guns ever built, have owned a few of them, but i always shoot high when i am pressing for speed. the 9's and 40's seem to eat anything you throw at them. i switched over to 1911 based guns and have 3 strayervoits that i truly love[2 9's and 40]. but these are some high dollar guns and i would not recomend them for anyone unless they were planning on shooting 500 plus rounds a week. when i first started shooting uspsa and steel matches i was burning 700 to 900 rounds a week. when i started using 1911, my hits % went up with the speed. i went from unclassified to master in 7 months, that was doing a bunch of shooting. i have a friend that shoots a glock about as fast as anyone in the world, i have seen him shoot 5 plates in under 2 seconds with that 40 glock. pretty impressive for a basicly stock gun. glock used to pay his way to the big matchs to help promote their guns.
i just recomend that people try a bunch of different guns and see what you like. and just stay away from the junk.

without trying to start any arguments, what brand would one consider junk?

I'm still looking and have considered the glocks, but I never made the decision...cannot say why. Hooked on Sig maybe....maybe I am hard headed about it....glocks cost less too - JKE
