Re:New Audio system for regular cab?

Here's how mine is set up: In the dash, a cd receiver and 1/2 DIN eq/electronic crossover in a "rack" style adapter that fits where the stock radio used to be. This is wired to the factory wiring for power, etc, with the exception of the ground. The power and ground wires are 6 gauge, both run directly from the battery through the firewall and down the channel under the driver's side door plate. The power and ground wires go to distribution blocks under the driver's seat, which is where the 150w(bridged) amp for the subwoofer lives. Under the passenger's seat is a 50wX2 amp for the front door speakers and a 20wX2 amp for the rear speakers. The signal wires from the eq to the amps are shielded RCA cables which come down from under the dash, run under the shifter hump, and emerge under the seats to connect to the amps. The speaker outputs from the amps go back the same way to connect to the factory speaker wires. I'm running a single 10" sub in a ported .86 cubic foot box behind the driver's seat, 6.5 components in the front doors, and 5 1/4 coaxials in the rear pillars.

Re:New Audio system for regular cab?

your front doors have factory 6x9's .....make sure the new ones you buy are not too deep 3" max .........

I made mdf baffles and ran 6.5" cerewin vega IT series component speakers in the front of my reg cab, much better sound than most coax's you buy .........

as for subs, you can only get about 2.5 cubes total internal volume behind the seat, so IMO you should only run 1 12 or 2 10's on a proper sized ported box ......

don't worry about 1 12 being loud enough

I ran 1 beyond audio Inhuman 12

it was in a 1.6 cube ported box tuned to 33 hz behind my seat with a 700 watt soundstream rubicon 702 powering it and I was able to pump off consistant 145 db runs with a 45 hz tone........

doubling the power and making a bigger box would have made it even louder

a JL audio 12w3 would be a nice chioce as would a kicker 12L7 or a concept PT series .......

there's soo many good woofers out there ....go out and demo what your local shop has to offer and get what sounds good to you

JL audio makes a trick center seat "stealth" box for our trucks

http://www.jlaudio.com/stealthbox/ramcentercushion.html

[the MTX 6500 d is a nice sub amp, I'd run at least 400 watts rms per sub minimum .......

be sure to match the impedance of the sub to the amp ie: if the sub is 4 ohms get an amp that make the power you want at 4 ohms

as for a head unit, check out some of the mp3 cd capable units it's a very nice feature to have .......

kenwood excelon series head units also have built in electronic crossovers so you don't have to buy an outboard one ..........

there's room uner the center section for one amp, and you can make a sunk in amp rack in the sub box it self, just be sure to have enough internal volume left for the sub to operate properly .........

check out my install in my current truck here

and here's a good place for any questions you might have about stereo's .......... usually pretty friendly
