New ATV (Polaris 400)

Well, bit the bullet and bought an '04 Sportsmen 400 yesterday (happy birthday to me ). Dealer was trying to make an end of the month quota and knocked $500 off msrp. Couldn't pass up a deal like that (percentage wise, that is a very good discount, especially on the '04s that just came out). I won't add much to it: just a winch, some racks, a gun scabard, gps mount, k&n, probably re-jet it, different muffler, tank storage bag....aiiigh :-

Congrats. I am glad you picked the polaris. Wife has one and totally loves it. Actually I have a 660 grizzly as well and I would rather drive her machine than mine. Congrats.

Congrats on the new quad. 8)

Be careful with the mods, it's just as addictive as Bombing the truck.

Here's the best winch mount there is, kinda of pricey but I've got one on both of my quads.

They also sell some other good stuff for quads as well. 8)

Congrats man. You'll love that thing. I took mine out for a quick spin today and forgot how much fun it was. I just wish I could find more trails around here. Anybody know of a place where I can go trail riding? On our's, our winch mount is integrated into our brushguard. It works really nicely. Those brushguards or tough. They can't with stand a 60mph impact into a pipe fence though. :- My sister found that out the hard way. ;D

Congrats on the 4-wheeler. I have a 96 Polaris Scrambler 400 2-stroke. I love that ATV. Wouldn't get rid of it for anything. The bombing of an ATV is like the bombing of a truck. IT'S ADDICTIVE!! You name it, my Scrambler probably has it done to it. ;D DarrellB knows.

Re:New ATV (Polaris 400)

Thanks ya'll. This has been/will be a long week, we can't ride til this weekend :'(. We can't wait to try it out. I get to teach the wife how to operate it :-. Of course we will follow the proper break-in procedure. If I'm not hanging out at the water cooler Monday, send a search/rescue team to Rocky Ridge in Texas.

I wish. You have to vary the throttle for the first few hours, do not operate at full throttle or high speeds for the first few hours either . Probably a good thing, as training will occur during this period.
The owners manual for this is ridiculous when it comes to the safety section, there must be some real boneheads out there (and I see them on the trails quite often). The first 35 pages (out of 134) spell out many ways of injuring or killing yourself. I was going to count how many times it is stated that "...Serious injury or death could result...." but I ran out of fingers and toes.

Anything to avoid a lawsuit.... :

I was young and stupid when I had my 400...and didn't care about break in periods. I hopped on it, strapped on my helmet and pegged it out. Not saying that's the right way to do it...but it sure was fun. ;D

Re:New ATV (Polaris 400)

Got you beat!! Just bought a 03 Polaris sportsman 500 HO!

Neat thing on this is it has a warn 2500lb multi mount winch where I can disconnect it and move it to the back. also has chrome wheels and Goodyear Rawhide tires. REALLY meaty!!
Also has the rails on the racks.

So all told there was about $1600 worth of stuff on the machine and he threw in a $160 helmet for free.

All for $350 over bone stock. ($7150)

My toy hauler when camping....

Re:New ATV (Polaris 400)

Ok now I've got a good question.

When is the DTR Ride and Camping rally going to happen. ;D

Hotdram, I've never followed the break-in directions. My dealer told me the best thing to do is take it out and trail ride it. He said the main thing to do is not run it a WOT for a long period of time untill it's broke in.

Good luck with the new quads guys.

That would be fun. However, I checked with my employer and apparently they require me to actually be at work to earn the paycheck they give me that lets me afford my toys. I have squandered most of my vacation and am saving what little is left for Xmas. If anyone in the North Texas area wants to set up a weekend shindig that would be cool. I could sneak out on a Friday, that would make it three days.

Don't know if you guys have a dish or not but if you do you might want to check out this show.

fishersatvworld.com

Last Saturday they had the High Lifter guys on and it was awesome. 8) They where riding at a place in Eastern Texas called Fun Wheeler's Park I think.

You can also go to outdoorchannel.com for more show info.
