New '08 Prius...$33,000
I won't link an ad, but I noticed around Chicago this weekend that Toyota Prius' are selling for $32,995 at local dealers in that area. This is a non-negotiable price.
Time to wake up - folks! That car is just a little bigger than a Corolla, which could be acquired with a 5-speed & A/C for around 16,000, or about 900 more with an auto. Assuming about 35 mpg with the Corrola vs. 42 with the Prius, 20k a year, $4 a gallon you would save $380.95/year with the Prius. Let's say you buy a loaded Corolla for $16,500, or at 50% of the Prius's intial purchase price. We don't even need to mention here that you could likely get the Corolla for less, it's a moot point.
So assuming either car was purchased with cash, with no finance charges, it would take you 43.3 years to make up the differance in cost!
Now...don't you really wish you had purchased a new Prius

They aren't cheap....
I'm going to close this one and ask you to discuss this topic on our sister site...

The only reason I ask that is so that we can get a membership list going over there. I just turned up the site today and it would be a good subject to start with. I'll take the good and the bad over there.
Thanks for your understanding.
PS - If you don't get much of a response on this subject over there, let me know and I'll open this thread back up.
