Need a vise on the back of my truck

I need to have a vise on the back of my truck. Not a real big one maybe 5 inch. I don't really need to yank hard on it either , I just need to hold things while working on my streetrod.

It needs to be removable with maybe 4 bolts.

I'm thinking that maybe a 1/4 inch plate mounted on the tail gate with 3/8 well nuts.
The other alternative is to make a mount that fits in the trailer hitch.

Anybody got some other ideas??

My first thought when I read your post was... build it on a hitch reciever. You can easily take it off and store it when not in use.

Just a quick rough idea of my thought.

that's what I did too. I also made a stand with a receiver on it so that I can use the vise in the shop without having to bolt/unbolt it everytime.

That looks good to me. I'll pick up a blank hitch. I think FleetFarm has them.

Thanks

I agree with raymond, cause that's how I did mine. All you need is a piece of 2" square tube long enough to fit in the reciever. If you know any machine shops or metal places see if they have some drops. I put mine on and pin it in.

my .02. Make it long enough so you can drop the tail gate with the vise mounted.

That's what I'm planning. If I can ever get anything done. So many interuptions. Probably goin gto need something to stabilize it too. Maybe a pair of light legs on the bottom against the ground.

I got the 2 inch tube, now I just need time to finish the project.

Streetrods are not only huge money pits but black holes for sucking up 5 times as much time as you thought to do something. haha

I'm going to pick up a vise today so at least I'll have that.
