Question Need Help hooking up New DVR !!

Just bought a DVR for X-Mas and having problems getting everything wired up.

Here's the components I got (all have Video/Audio RCA In/Out Jacks).....

- TV
- Cable Box (built in DVR - No Disc....goes to a HD)
- DVR
- DVD Player with Home Theater Audio system. Main use is for the Home Audio

I want to be able to Record from either the Cable Box OR the TV.

Ideas on how to wire this stuff up ??

DVR as in Tivo? or another brand?
Or, are we talking DVD recorder?

Typed out a big response with DVD Recorder stuck in my head, then realized you might not be talking about that.

i just got one, a recorder anyway. i hooked mine up like this...

first, from the cable in (from the wall) to the cable in on recorder.

cable out of recorder to cable in of tv

audio out of recorder to audio in of receiver

video out of recorder to video in of tv

the schematic should be in the instuctions

everthing was the same with my old one except i had to connect the cable in from wall to the recorder and use a short jumper back to the tv.

good luck!

The DVR is just bought is a Recorder/Player. My Cable box is similar to a TiVo (I think...)

In that case, it's not going to be easy.
Anything you want to record from TV/Cable will have to go through the Cable box, as it is Digital.
If the Cable box has multiple RCA outputs, then no problem,
if only one set, then you'll need splitters to get it to both the TV and the recorder.
If the TV only has 1 or 2 sets of RCA inputs,
then you'll need a switchbox to be able to watch the Cable box, DVD player and new recorder.
Your Home Theatre box might be able to handle the switching, if it has multiple audio/video inputs, some do, some just do audio.

My setup is a mess of wires, cables, switches and splitters.
DVD player, Satellite Reciever (2 tuner with Tivo), VCR, DVD recorder, PS2 and Tivo
all going to one TV, all going through the surround sound system.
