Need Help with buying memory
Yes the 40ns ram is faster than the 45ns.
Rambus is extremely picky memory.. You have to deal with the mhz, the ns, and the CL timings.
Best bet would be to resell the ram online and try again if you really want to keep that system.
Im sure you tossed the idea around alot already... but on any system with rambus its usually best to replace the system.
Looks like ebay prices for PC800-40 is about $160 for 256x4 or $85 for 256x2.
And as a reminder so you dont throw a ton of money into an old system, is you can toss two 256's in with your existing 128's just fine. They just need to go like 128 128 256 256.. pretty much put the origianl back and replace the continuity placeholders with 256's... Id look at it this way.. thatd give you 768mb.. would you upgrade from 768mb to 1gb for $80? Thats how much extra it cost... *shrug* With that much ram the cpu speed is going to be lacking at that point anyway.
Food for thought.

Thanks Timmay, I am going to relist the stuff I bought, try and get back what I can out of it.
I went to Dell and HP and gateways websites and to replace the system i have with all the peripherals and such would run me about $1200..
so it is cheaper to just upgrade the current one I think.. we dont use it for a whole lot..
book-keeping for the horse training, an occasional school paper for the kids, adn playing on the 'net is about 95% of its use, so spending a great deal of money on it isnt worth the investment.........the BOSS just gets cranky when her webpages take more than 5 or 6 seconds to load..
