Smokindog...that's easy to say, save up the money, but my hobbies prevent me from saving ANY money. The truck I have in my sig does OK for pulling my trailer, and driving around the country, but I need to step it up ASAP...I wouldn't mind building some credit either. I'm 24, still at the age I'm supposed to make stupid decisions
These are the other money pits, that prevent me from saving up that much money:
So as you can see, it's not too easy to save up that much cash. I wish it was!!! I don't think there's any way I could get it down to $8K, heck it blue books at $10K, and people are pulling in a lot more money for them than that. :/

Well, maybe not, but then again you actually could. Helped a friend pick up one this weekend for about $2900 OFF the "window price."
Personally the fact it's modified should take this value down a bit. It's a nice looking truck, I wonder where the exhaust system came from, I've never seen a CTD without a stack exiting before the rear wheel.

I had a VERY hard time getting a loan for my 99 with 211,000 miles, even when the blue book retail value printout showed over 18k and i only needed a $12k loan. thats what, borrowing less than 70% of the value...
Almost every bank and loan I applied for turned it down because over 100,000 miles. The only one i was able to get stuck me with 24% interest due to the high miles.
Im still searching for a loan to re-fi it with- havent found one yet.

Ebay has a financing deal. You might see if they will approve you.
Someone talked about paying 24% interest on a loan. That is just crazy! I've never paid more than 9% interest on anything except maybe a credit card in college. It helps that my credit score is high enough to get the best rate for pretty much any loan. My credit score is high enough that for my home refinance (Closed yesterday) they never asked for W2s, pay stubs, and all the other stuff they said they would need.

You'll never get ahead of the game paying interest to anyone. If you don't have the cash, don't buy it. I'm not much older than you are Dave, but everything I have is paid for and I will never borrow from a lending institution again. It's not about the hobbies getting in the way it is about financial discipline. It's another world when you play with cash.

Smokingdog is rich.
I'll be 28 this year and have 17 years left on my mortgage and though I was doing good? Lets see, about 25K in car/truck debt, 307K in house&rental property debt, and about 5k in unsecured credit debt. I'm not doing well by your standards.
I don't mind paying the "Man" his interest, might as well live good for the short time we live on this earth.
Pay the bank, maybe not 24% but somewhere closer to 8-10%.
If they can't help you, move on. Or, sell that white stang?

Well, I talked to the loan officer today, I talked my way into the loan I guess you could say. She told me to tell her more about the truck, so I told her all the good things about it. She said "Well, you sound pretty knowledgable about what you're talking about, so we'll give you the $9600, plust tax/title/license".
She said that they don't hardly ever give out loans for vehicles over 200K miles, and really don't even like to give them out for over 100K, but said that I sounded pretty confident about the condition of the truck, so she would give me the loan. I'm so excited!

putting money down always helps... if they've got $4-5k of yours, then they're only loaning $4-5k against the truck...
my buddy got a brand new 3500 even though he had a repo on his credit from a couple years prior... he put about $10k down I believe.
