Navy "Community Relations"??
Navy "Community Relations"??
This is a quote from an article on cnn.com about a navy ship docking in Vietnam for the first time in 30 years:
"The Vandergrift will spend four days in port, with its 200 sailors relaxing and shopping in the city and engaging in what officials describe as "community relations" activities."
CNN Link
Gee, I wonder what they mean by "community relations" activites? Don't think that's what we called our activities when we pulled into port.

Re:Navy "Community Relations"??
All of my uncles that were in Nam back in the day had what would be more aptly termed "Communicable Relations"... Where was that local pharmacy (with the do-it-yourself penicillin starter kit) located again???
Re:Navy "Community Relations"??
Them boys are handing out toothbrushes and feminine products to the underprivileged ... all the while, finding out where the good houses of ill-repute are located !!!
Usually in the RESTRICTED TO SAILORS part of town, which is where the CO and XO were partying !!!
Not that any of us have done anything like that ...

I always wondered how smart it was to tell us where not to go in the port briefs. If they didn't tell us, there probably would have been less of us in those areas. Tell a sailor they can't go somewhere and that is the first place they are gonna' go.
