My position has been "reassigned"...

Well, got the news today that the funding for my position has been "reassigned" as of March 31, 2011. No more job as of then. Kinda sucks, actually let me rephrase that, it REALLY sucks. Work with great people except for a few that don't know anything OR do anything.

Took a bit for it to sink in, but God has looked after us this long, has provided for us well and maybe this is the push for me to go out on my own doing my side business full time? Just needed to share this with someone. We'll be ok, nothing like hearing this 7 days before Christmas...

I feel your pain. All I can say go where your heart takes you and keep the faith.

I was let go after 26 years with a company 6 months ago. Started my own company (and working on another startup) and enjoying life now just by working from home. I haven't made a dime yet but with several contracts now things are looking up.

Keep looking to God. There is a plan. I was let go from a 6 figure job and God took care of me when I needed it, not always when I wanted it, but ALWAYS when it was needed.

John, sorry to hear about the bad news and especially at this time of year.
You have mentioned trying something on your own in our past conversations so maybe this is the time. Working for yourself has its positive points but as in all of life there are trade offs. Keep your eyes and ears open and don't be afraid to spread the word around that you are open to a change. The economy in our part of the country is strong and there are opportunities available. With your past work experiences you have talents that would be useful in various areas.
You have a little time to make a decision, use it to your advantage.
Stan

Sorry to hear of your bad news, but keep your chin up...a guy like you won't be down long, you know what they say, you can't keep a good man down

Lots of hiring going on in my area, they need coal miners and lots of them.

Sorry for you. Its been a long time since I went through it but I can remember the despair I felt. Things will work out.

Trust me...it will all work out in the end. You won't know the path to get there, but it will!

Case in point: I was laid off summer '09, after 15 years of service, found a new job 130 miles south, moved the family summer '10, and the wife got a new job in October. While I am making 20% less pay, we are together and things are shaping up!
