My First Speeding Ticket... This is Stupid!
If the speedo was off then isnt that faulty equipment as well? Man this aint looking good for you.
And what I dont understand is 3.42 to 3.73 isnt too big of a jump. Its a jump none the less but according to my GPS the last truck I regeared was about 20MPH off but that was going from 3.55 to 4.56 gears, same tire size with both gears.

A gear change from 3.42 to 3.73 is not going to make a speedo 20mph off. Around here if you don't have a lawyer, might as well pay the ticket and save yourself allot of time and headaches.
No, according to the cop, the speedometer is apparently not off. The needle said 82, and so did the radar. It only makes sense (after the fact), that the owner had re-geared the truck to compensate for his larger tires. He must have picked the right gear ratio, and must have just gotten lucky driving it that fast.

30 years ago I bought a new 359ST Peterbilt in Portland Oregon and into California had to stop at the inspection station. They found a bunch of air fittings on the brakes leaking. They wrote me for that and my license not on me as it was in my pickup my friend was driving. I went before the judge and told him it was a new truck and he dismiss in the matter of justice. I have paid no fine or point since I have found if you can explain it within good reason they will dismiss.
Funny you mention this. You've gotten lucky or had officers who didn't know what they were doing. I've had several people try to fight my speeding tickets with this stuff. I've never lost a speeding case yet, but who am I to say? Maybe he'll get lucky this time. Research of the site though reveals a lot of unhappy customers. By the time he gets done paying for that service, he may as well get a local lawyer who knows what to do in that particular jurisdiction.
Here is one of many instances of dissatisfaction I've found with that site:

Courts do that all the time to get the many cases through the system without having to have a trial for each one. If they didn't do that, you'd be waiting in line for a week. But yeah, that happens a lot.
I have taken two tickets that I got over the years to court, one I had a paralegal attend for me as I couldn't be there that day. The other I went myself and talked to the prosecutor about the matter and made a deal with him that I would plead guilty to a lesser fine/points.
It was my first ticket and I kind of wanted to see what would happen.

tire and gear ratio per the math would be 5-8mph off depending on the details.
as one who has heard it all and still finds reason to listen to motorists:
lucky you are not in custody, same ol thing- driver takes the responsibility unless emergent circumstances. test driving isn't one of them. everyone wants to push the limit when trying a new to them vechicle, period.
request a "300 series" or equipment violation along with the math of the facts- guy told you the gear ratio, period. (if you were told to jump off a cliff... mentality here)
tell the assistant district attorney prior to Court trial, that fact of testing truck for a friend, guy told you this to encourage a sale, you now know he lied, you would never operate a vehicle with those conditions (how's your 3 year record by the way?) and could he please suggest a fine without the points or surcharges? if you ask for something like a 'stopping standing or parking' ticket instead- he will know you have done this before and may have concerns you speed like a demon.
You are getting better advice than from an attorney and it is all free.
administrator can probably chisel 'no speeding' in stone- let's make sure it is not your headstone that required it. point made?
don't let life or financial loss be your reason to slow down.

How long have you been driving that you can't tell if you're off by 20mph? By chance did the guy change gears because he installed oversize tires, which would've evened it back out?

have a been ticketed a lot in my younger years, most of them i was guilty or my fault for not doing what i should have been, talk to the judge or prsecutor first and explain the deal and see what they say. dont believe you could win if you try to fight it
The owner of the truck agreed to write a notorized letter that I can take to court with me, saying that he was mistaken, was with me at the time, and hadn't had just changed the gear ratios before he sold it and his math was off. I sure hopes this helps me. I have heard that administrators, if i'm thinking of the right person here, will try to let you settle out of court b/c it costs money to have to have the officer appear in court and b/c court dates are always so backed up. If i can get it reduced from 17 to 15 it would help out a lot.
