Man stops carjacking with hot coffee
BLUFFTON, S.C. (AP) -- A would-be carjacker got a different kind of jolt from his intended victim's morning cup of coffee, authorities said.
The suspect tapped the car window Wednesday morning with a gun and motioned the driver to get out, Chief Deputy Roy Hughes said.
But the driver - who had just bought a cup of hot coffee - slammed the car door into the carjacker's legs, threw the coffee at his neck and face and wrestled him to the ground, Hughes said.
A shot was fired during the scuffle but no one was hurt, Hughes said. He said the driver managed to get the gun from the suspect and point it at him.
The suspect ran into nearby woods, Hughes said. Deputies are searching for him and two people thought to be with him who drove off during the scuffle.

especially those people who don't function without their morning coffee.

Thats MR Hoss to you buddy!
Good article....but it also has some very important lessons that we should all take notice of.
When a situation presents itself and you are forced to go into "fight or flight" mode...assuming you cannot safely flee...FIGHT with everything you've got and fight DIRTY. If a simple cup of coffee can become a weapon, just think of all the other stuff we usually have nearby that may save our lives.
I once read an article where a man tried to rob a lady as she was filling up her car with gas. She promptly pulled the nozzle from her car and gave the man a face full of 87 octane.
Sometimes you've gotta think outside the box.

That and pulling a lighter out of your pocket/vehicle should give the potential thief cause for pause.
The problem in todays society is that you'd probably be sued or charged with assault or excessive force.
Even throwing coffee at someone can be considered assault and too often the bad guy has more rights than we have.

Thats why some of us carry more than just coffee with us in the mornings. With the new laws in Florida regarding CW the bad guy really has to think if he is going to be lucky or not. I can tell you I would have shot the SOB. No one, not even the wife, is taking my TRUCK.

I can't say I'd shoot someone who was trying to steal my truck (unless they were trying to steal it while my wife or child was in it), but the fact that the would-be hijacker had a gun really escalates the situation and at that point it becomes self defense.

Nope ... wouldn't try to wound him. double-tap, center mass. They have a real hard time doing much of anything after that. Coffee ... now that's a good one.
