MRI on an animal

Has anybody here had an MRI done on a pet? Specifically a dog. I have a mini-dachshund that is 4 years old and for the last year she has had minor back problems. She never jumps but was taken from an abuser when she was a puppy so who knows what really happened.

My local vet has been treating her with steroids when ever the pain sets in and it usually goes away. Right now she is in more pain than previously and the vet has talked to us about getting an MRI to see exactly what is going on.

I was wondering what kind of costs are involved? I will also have to travel to Phoenix as this is the closest place to me for animal MRI's

pets get better care most times, than people. sooooo, figure 340 dollars for the actual MRI and about 100 or so for the anesthetic/monitoring minimum.
small dogs are harder to work on, think a jeweler versus car mechanic.
then doctor total costs of about 300 bucks. they are like our kids, so all the best to you in this situation.

Heidi, 26 years of sled dogs. ( I like some dogs better than some people, wish it was okay to snarl in a social setting....)

not sure if your vet can do the new infrared laser therapy but i can tell you it works wonders because our mini dachshund started having back problems and the vet gave some kinda pills and then did the 6 laser therapy treatments and the dog is like new.

Thanks! I was figuring on about $800 +/-

I need to have my vet call them to discuss it and get a closer estimate.

????
What is this?

The vet I go to has a few doctors and the one that specializes in dachshunds will be back in on Monday. He even has 5 of his own so I need to discuss with him the next step. I will have to ask about the infrared treatment!

Our Dachshund Had the same trouble but she became parillized from the neck down. After the MRI she needed surgery to fix the problem and it was successful. The total cost of the MRI, Have someone read it and the surgery was about 3000.00 about five years ago. Dachshunds are well known for back troubles. Good Luck
