I've put 40,000 miles combined on 2 different v-stars (1100 and 650). The only caution I can offer is to make sure you leave the throttle alone during start up. The throttle has a position sensor and if moved during startup it will mess up the starter clutch. Starter clutches run about 600-700 to replace. Everything else is great on those bikes. Gotta love the shaft drive. Zero maintenance

Thanks. Someone told me to find a forum, they said that forums are good tools... whatever. Gun rack, yes, good idea. Crutch rack... wait, who's had more knee surgeries than me? Punk.
Check is in the mail. Should have it tomorrow.

Worm has the same bike, 03 in white and blue. Great little bike. We call it the "female dog" bike. Everyone has learned to ride on it. Youll be happy with it. Good set of pipes and it sounds pretty decent. Remember, loud pipes saves lives.
Actually, Im pretty suprised by this. As much flak as youve given bikes in the past about being unsafe, I didnt think youd do it. Youll learn soon enough, its not you or the bike you wont trust, its all the other drivers.
Have fun and stay safe!

But as I always tell her, bikes aren't dangerous, it's the people riding them. That may sound a little kooky but it's a mental thing. It's all to do with your attitude when you go to ride. When I used to ride, 95% of the time I would mentally prepare for it, and I would ride believing that EVERY other vehicle on the road COULD NOT SEE ME. Keep that in mind, it's super important. The other 5%, when I wasn't mentally prepared, I would assume other road users could see me and I would get in to trouble. If I was in a negative mood, I would just use my superior acceleration/braking/handling and bully my way through. Not smart.
But if I was in a good mood, just not the right head-place, I would pull over, rest a bit and get myself to where I needed to be mentally. Maybe this all sounds too touchy-feely, but it worked for me. Bikes can be great, and I really miss riding. Although this area of the country has NO good riding roads.
The thing about bikes is you see the world in such a different way. Robert Pirsig, (Zen and the Art...) said something like, 'instead of seeing the world through the picture frame of a windshield, being protected from it with glass and metal, you're IN the picture, a part of it'. That's the best.... well, that and going through the twisties at a high rate of knots! Ok, off the soapbox.
over!
Enjoy your bike Mark, just be careful.
How can that make for an enjoyable ride? I agree with you 100%, but that's why I could never have a bike. I'd be on edge all the time, looking out for every driver that was near me on the road, wondering what stupid thing they were going to do next that could get me killed. I'd never be able to relax and just enjoy the bike or the ride.

It's gonna be a while... The next class is not until the 4th of April, and I can't apply for my licence or anything else until I get that class done.
It's got some pretty loud pipes on it already, I gotta get some hearing pro... Yeah, I'm still pretty leary, but with fuel prices the way they are... I'm just going to arm myself with good PPE and good decision making skills.
West Palm, huh? Man, I miss SFla sometimes... That sounds like an interesting quote. I'm for sure going to get some good eye pro...
Bring it! No chaikwas!

I took the motorcycle class a few years back and it was very informative. When I signed up (early spring) the earliest class was late in the year. It wasn't till I was in the class when the instructor mentioned that many classes had to be canceled because people will sign up but not show up. The instructor said I should have showed up as a walk-on. Check the times, you may get in earlier.
FYI, some say ride 1,000 miles by yourself before passengers, I think it's good advice.
Congrats, enjoy.

A couple of other very close calls by distracted drivers finally ruined it for me since I no longer enjoyed street riding
.Well, on that happy note
, your reflexes are better than mine so you should have some good riding as long as you pay attention. End of Lecture
.
All loud pipes do is really irritate your neighbors. And, if the cops are doing their job . . . really loud ones get you proof of how loud they are to show your buddies.
A reasonably loud set does sound sweet though.
