Magenetic Mount CB Antenna

Has anyone ever had any problems with their paint under their magentic antenna after long periods of time. Could anything be placed under it to protect the paint at all? thanks

I have a magnetic antenna for my portable GPS and it has destroyed the paint so I no longer just keep it on the roof. I remove it whenever I'm done using it.

My UHF/VHF magmount has been on for two years now - no rings, no rust, no nothing. I do take it off when parking in parking garages (very rare), but thats about it.

I'm glad I never drilled any holes.

I'll have to check my Xm mag mount now. I've forgotten that its up there.

For Horsehauler, I guess you could put a layer of rubber between the paint and the magnet - it goes without saying to make sure everything is clean.

Yep ... gotta big ring on the roof. Luckily it is only the clearcoat and can be doctor'd. I may mount a steel plate on my toolbox to stick it to instead of the roof. I don't like drilling holes in my baby.

Yes, my paint is a mess where the round magnet sits. I always make sure it's clean before I put in on the roof but if I leave it on for a few weeks it's very hard to get it off of the truck. Luckily it's on the roof where it can't be seen... I guess some thin rubber might help but the magnet may move ,I don't know...

I had a jeep with a magnetic mount and it didn't damage the paint. Here's a thought, get ya some of that clear anti-chip tape that is used on fender corners, front-ends and cut it in the shape of the magnet, stick-it, and your done. Paint saved. What'cha think?

I've had an antenna w/a magnetic base on my truck since Aug. ( Got my K40 antenna back on now, as of today. ). No paint problems. I put a piece of a plastic sandwich baggie in between the mount and the roof. Worked great! When I used the same antenna on my '82 Ford, I didn't put anything under it. Chewed the paint up pretty bad, and started to rust.
