Trying to make tamales today. Wish us luck!
Shorts- when we make them, DW has found the trick to be lots of shortening in the masa. We finally got a tamale pot for steaming them best.

Getting cold here. Some dude dumped some ice out in our courtyard around 2 this afternoon, it's still there. High 30s at night, low 70s in the day if we're lucky.
The highest temperature I saw the week in January I was in Kaz was about freezing. the lowest was -30C. You're a bit further south than Atkau, but I doubt it helps much.

Tim, I'm guessing it's a minor issue but I just have to stay on top of things when I log on.

I am, but on a much smaller scale. We use rock filled Gabions for retaining soil and lining creeks.

I put the stickers on magnetic tape so I can just slap them on the doors if I start to lose, kinda like nitrous.

FO, shortening is how I spell lard (same thing to me). I think we use Tenderflake. A friend of mine who grew up in Mexico uses a mix of 50% lard and 50% bacon drippings.

I thought shortening was vegetable oils.

Complaining about the cold. You could be deployed where I was. I made 2 deploymenyt to Antartica. A nice day during the summer was +18 without the wind. We did have a week where it was between +40 and +50. It was like a heat wave. Keith

Fronty, you are correct, shortening is vegetable based. However, go do a taste test - a tablespoon of shortening in 1 hand and a tablespoon of lard in the other hand. Pop one in first, swirl it around in your mouth while it melts and then swallow. Now try with the other spoonful, I bet you are hard pressed to taste the difference. No cheating by putting it in food, lard and shortening are like fine sipping bourbons, they are best enjoyed neat and warm.

I'll take your word for it...
I try not to use any more oils and fats than I have to.

Morning yall. So what are we doing today?

Trad, magnrtic stickers are good. Probably the wise thing to do to save your tranny. You can pull them off to cut back on power for street manners.

Jwbm I think Vacation to the cold is going to be good. I definitely cant live in it anymore. Too much south texas in my bones lol
