Luke 2: 1-14 Merry Christmas

Christ Born of Mary
1 And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. 2 This census first took place while Quirinius was governing Syria. 3 So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city.
4 Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, 5 to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child. 6 So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. 7 And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
Glory in the Highest

8 Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. 10 Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. 11 For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”
13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:
14 “ Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”

So often we read the verses and it soothes our thoughts and we're thankful.

Think of what was happening. Mary is with child. Never been with a man. (read Matt 1:18-25) only told by an angle of what is happening. Mary was probably between 14-21 years old. She goes home (or to her best friend) and tells her parents she's pregnant! "But I haven't been with anyone!!" Now what does her parents think? Do they believe her? So Joseph, when he finds out wants to spare Mary disgrace and put her aside quietly. An Angel appears to Joseph and explains this is fulfillment of the prophecy in Isaiah 7:14 and Joseph took Mary as his wife, but they had no union until after the baby was born. So we see Joseph's integrity.

Then in Luke Joseph is going from Nazareth to Bethlehem with Mary to register for the census. That's like 75 miles! Did they take their Dodge Ram? Did they have an SUV of another make? How did they get there? Did they walk, ride a donkey? She was 7,8 or 9 months pregnant. Pretty difficult traveling by any means.

Baby born, and no place to stay. Puts baby in "manger". Read Luke 2:7. Who did all this? She gave birth, she wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger. Wasn't her mother there to help? No friends, no family? Only Joseph? So a teenager, without close friends, in an unknown place give birth to a baby and nobody offers assistance and she places Him in the feed trough of a barn!

There's more in those verses then we often consider!

Now, it Christ's birthday. How do we celebrate it?

Consider Matt. 25:35-40. "For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you game me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me." vs. 37-"Then the righteous will answer him, Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?"

The King will reply, "I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me."

So we need to find someone we can minister to. Maybe it's a "Thank you", or help with the dishes, or cut some firewood for someone, or give someone a ride, or invite someone for a meal, or check on a neighbor, or going to do something we really don't like/want to do. That can be our birthday gift to Christ.

Thanks a lot guys for your posts... Always good to hear the Christians being louder than the weaklings who are trying to take Christ out of everything these days.

Hope your time with friends and family today was blessed and that God uses all of us in this coming year to bless others with our lives.
