Loud turbo on a powerjoke...

Sitting in traffic coming home yesterday, I saw a newer Ford dually pulling a small flatbed. He had a 5" tip but it looked like a 4" tailpipe but I'm not sure. Anyways, his exhaust was not that loud but man you could hear his turbo whistling through the tailpipe from 25 yards away! Even at idle! My first thought was that it must be straight piped but when he accelerated you still couldn't hear the exhaust but that turbo just got louder. It sounded kind of cool, just because it was a turbo, but it also sounded kind of strange.
My turbo's loud but the sound is coming from the turbo, not so much out the exhaust......

The only way to tell the 6.0 and the 7.3 apart without looking at the motor is to look at the door badges.

The 7.3 door badge is dark and has DIESEL V8 in big letters. In smaller letters to the left of that says POWERSTROKE.

The 6.0 door badge is chrome and has POWERSTROKE V8 in red letters. Below it in smaller black letters it says TURBO DIESEL.

I thought my turbo was loud, until I went to Muncie and heard some of the Fords there. I couldn't believe how loud those turbos were, idling. I think it was because the housing are smaller on their turbos.
It sounded so COOL!
Maybe I can get an HX10 with a 6cm housing and wastegate though it at an idle so mine can sound like that....

I think they're too loud. I have heard a few. Even one going down the highway along side me. It was singing higher than a Peterbuilt. I would think that would get old pretty quick.

That's what I think Hoot. It was a little much. In my 98 I could hear a little turbo out of my tailpipe at idle after I installed my K&N filter but I can't hear any on the 03. I don't know how it sounds going down the road because I'm always behind the wheel. I guess it's time to let the wife drive it again so I can remember how it sounds to the world....

You know how us motorheads are, we just don't want anybody's stuff to sound or run better than ours>>

As far as 6.0 or 7.3, I couldn't tell you. It was silver with 6 wheels and had this UGLY blue oval on the tailgate and in the grill..

Last time I heard one, it sounded like it was coming from the cab. I figuered he was playing some sort of big rig tape on a loud stereo. I'l bet if he flipped it over it would play "convoy".

Get one of those fake turbo whistles and one of those gauge pods with the fake gauges in it and a bunch of stickers and your guaranteed to go faster or maybe just wasted a bunch of money.
