I replaced the muffler once on a noisy Briggs & Stratton with one for a nice quiet Yamaha generator. Made the exhaust quiet anyway. The rest of the B&S was still noisy.

A generator muffler might be the way to go.

Where did you get that muffler? Any online places for generator mufflers? I like that idea.

if its got the pipe threads, get a pipe about 2 inches long, put a "T" on it and by 2 new screw on mufflers for it, that should quiet it down!

Lightbulb Muffler

I have a old Onan CCK 5 Kw. generator for my small backup so I don't have to use my Big backup unit at my home. It came out of a motorhome and the muffler was rusted, so I got a small turbo muffler and welded it on and it is pretty quiet. You could use any muffler off of a small import car and it should work. How big is the engine, is it a single or twin cylinder?
Jim.

I got the alternator from my local truck parts, it is the ones used on OTR rigs. With all of the power I consume in my truck I kept killing my alternators so I installed this one and some rewiring and I have not had a dead battery since. I can run my 3000 watt inverter at full load with my engine at an idle. My standby genset is a military Mep003 10kw single and 3 phase power. It is powered by a ONAN 4 cylinder diesel engine @1800 RPM and it is kinda loud.
Thanks Jim.

I went to a small engine repair shop and he had a used one. Didn't cost much, if you can get one like that, it's ideal.

Take it to your local muffler shop, and ask them to make something work. After the last hurricane season my local shop did wonders with a loud generator.

After it was all said and done, I think those guys had a blast putting something together. Last I heard they had done some more genny's too.
