Looking for a Nav system w/ external antenna...

I need a Nav system for my delivery truck. I can't use your run-of-the-mill system because my truck has a big overhang that blocks the signal from the satellite. I have an old Magellan 750M that I have been using but it is on it's last legs. The crazy thing is that we paid $2000 for that thing about 8 years ago and now Magellan says they don't work on them or update them anymore. They told me to just buy a new unit. Anyways, it has a 15' long cord with the magnetic antenna and that's what I am looking for again. I took this one and mounted it on the very front of the hood and it was working fine from that position. If anyone knows of a good system with an antenna like this please let me know.....

Thanks

I use the Garmin Mobile 10. Bluetooth antenna and a Pocket PC for hardware. I like it. I dont think the antenna is that weather proof though, but you could zip lock bag it. The battery lasts 20 hours with out being charged.

I need something easy to use and with a weatherproof antenna. I found a unit the same as mine on e-bay and may try to buy it since the one we have works fine when it is working. Unless, of course, somebody knows of one with the features I have asked about....

Thanks for the reply neighbor

How about something like this?

I know it doesnt come with a GPS system but it is a plug and play addition to many from reading about it.

only problem with those antenna's is with the pin that plugs into the unit. twice now I've gone to take my Garmin 7200 out of the truck and even being gentle with it managed to yank the plug out of it. Once that happens, you'll be buying a new antenna.

have you tried using a newer GPS without an external antenna? The reason why i ask is because have the garmin street pilot c340 and mine works sitting on the seat of my truck. i don't know what your rig looks like but my truck Lund sunvisor and it still works fine. as far as simplicity the street pilot is great and it is super fast at rerouting.

like showed above the garmin also supports a remote antenna for this particular unit.

I have not tried that but the overhang is just barely past the top of the windshield but it is 5' tall so it may block the signal. My wife has a regular unit like that. I will put it in the windshield and see if it works. Maybe I'm wasting my time here and it will work with no problems. I'll report back. If this doesn't work then yes that external antenna in that link looks like it will help if I go buy a Tom Tom...

Thanks for the replies.

BTW, my delivery truck is your basic 24' mover's truck with the overhang over the cab....
