Looking for.....

Hey All,

This is a long shot, Im looking for a large enclosed trailer to move cross country in. The family and I are leaving California, PA bound. Money is real tight and the move is really expensive. If anybody knows of a trailer that needs to be transported to the East coast, let me know. Or if you know of a web site that provides a service like this, please pass it on.

Thanks in advance

Tom

I used United Rentals in San Juan Capistrano. They had a 26" trailer that I used to moved to WA. However, I had to bring it back, and it was about 35.00 a day. It was definitely worth the drive time. Call and ask them, maybe you can drop it off in PA.

Tom ? dang I was looking forward to our next meet for the BBQ oysters. Hope everything goes right for you and the family. another thought is maybe you could get a group of guys to bring that trailer back by doing a hand off from one to another all the way back, If I am in the area for the last segment , I do the last segment.

John, no worries, I'll pm you with the recepe

As far as the trailer goes, not sure how well that would work. IMO, it would take a decent amount of coordination, not to mention liability on my end, if someone totalled it.

Thanks for the offer tho

Tom,
Good luck in PA. What part you going to? Never been to California, but I would assume PA will be a big change. Hope all works out for you.

Not big, but I got a 6x12 U-Haul for $100 from AZ to NJ... Rentals from West to East seem to be much cheaper than vice versa.

I would say you could do that, or buy one and sell it when you get there or try findahauler.com or uship.com and try to arrange something where you could bring their trailer for free in exchange for using it.

No one will be sadder than me to see you go!

But I understand the reasons and I myself am on the 5 year plan to GTF out of California!

I love you guys and you must know that my door is always open anytime for you,the boss, and the kids!

Any of our members in PA should be proud to have you as a member of their group!!

I would like you to nominate a replacement for you in our Chapter as well!

Rick

I was in the same boat when I left the Keys a year ago .... ended up buying a huge gooseneck horse trailer (might need one someday anyway ) and used it to make the move. I use the trailer for storage now until we start getting some animals on the farm.

Definately not purty, but you can pick them up fairly cheap if you keep your eyes open.

I wish ya luck.

Thanks to everyone that responded. And thanks for your well wishes and good ideas.

I too, got an idea about buying a trailer. I spent two days on craigslist, and finally found a trailer for sale within the budget. The wife and I decided that we could buy a trailer, then sell a few months after arrival. We figure even if we lose 1k when we sell it, we could say it only cost 1k and not 4k to 12k to move.

I found a screamin deal this morning. A 2003 Haulmark 22' race trailer. Owner said it had about 7k miles on it from one trip to Florida and back. He was asking $4k for it(which is very low). I offered him $3500 and he took it. Pulled the trailer 200 miles and it tows great. Now I dont see my self losing any money on this trip. In a few months I can turn around and sell this trailer for $ 5k. That will cover my fuel

Thanks, were moving to Canonsburg, about 20 miles outside of Pittsburgh. Yea, it will be a BIG change. But, we are ready to slow down, and Im sick of the rat race out here. ITs a good thing.
