told my hubby about your new trail ofc marc- the one requiring a winch for the four wheeler...he was amazed at that kind of rugged trail. we have logger trails (ruts about five feet deep) boulders and rivers, but we get through them without winches. question- we are gonna do some exploring when we get up there in May, do we really need bear spray? or just make a lot of noise.

gone to fair and back, nice. lot of changes when a casino comes near. all the wooden buildings gone, all metal and concrete now. I actually got lost as no familiar buildings around. saw a LOT of bobcats. not funny I said to hubby as he pointed them all out. yup, even the T rad type (machinery ones)

Redleg, enjoy some time off! Matt- eek, hate when a parent needs watching over! make her some chicken soup, tee hee.

talked with a lot of Indian folks today, almost got into the wolf clan: people who will speak out for justice, be aggressive, protective of the less fortunate, and stubborn against attack. hehehe, my hubby was laughing.

off to get shot number 2. learned how friggin' rare it is for a wild cat to have rabies... great. I am sooo special.

--IMO Making noise works pretty good unless its a bear that’s been around people a lot. Even then they usually wander off if you make sure you don’t surprise them.
--Trying to find a good article from a couple years back on spray that was written by a guide who got mauled by a brown in Kenai. When he got mauled, the bear was about 20 feet away. He fired a warning shot from his shotgun to scare the bear. The bear charged so fast he didn’t have time to jack another round in.
--Moral of story was- no warning shot if the bear is close. He also discussed using spray but I cant remember what his final view on it was.
--If you are flying, why not bring up your pistol (if you have a big one). No permits are needed.

It's not a new trail. Been around for a long time. I've just never been on it. Apparently the first 20 miles or so are through the tundra/swamp and there may or may not be a bottom to the holes.......

Noise is a good thing. I am far from silent when I wander around in the wilderness. Don't want to surprise a bear for sure. I'd have some spray for sure but I'd rather have a big gun handy. Pepper spray might just make me taste better.......Even if you don't fly, you could easily pick up a bear gun once you are here.....

With your luck, the chicken would be recalled too!

Morning all.

Today is Monday, August 23rd.

On this day in 1838 - The first class graduated from Mount Holyoke Female Seminary in South Hadley, MA. It was one of the first colleges for women.

1877 - The Texas outlaw Wes Hardin was captured in near Pensacola, FL.

1914 - Tsingtao, China, was bombarded as Japan declared war on Germany in World War I.

1939 - **** Germany and the Soviet Union signed a non-aggression treaty.

1944 - During World War II, Romanian prime minister Ion Antonescue was dismissed. Soon after the country would abandon the Axis and join the Allies.

1944 - Marseilles was captured by Allied troops during World War II.

1983 - The U.S. announced that it was nearly ready for a test flight of an anti-satellite missile.

1984 - South Fork Ranch, the home of the fictitious Ewing clan of the CBS-TV show, "Dallas," was sold. The ranch was to be transformed from a tourist site into a hotel.

1990 - President Saddam Hussein appeared on Iraqi state television with a group of Western detainees that he referred to as "guests." He told the group that they were being held "to prevent the scourge of war."

1998 - Michael Jones, a 16-year old boy, was shot when he refused to drop a water gun that appeared real to police officers. In New York City it was illegal to carry to possess a toy gun that looks real or is painted black.

2001 - California Congressman Gary Condit gave an interview to ABC's Connie Chung. Condit denied involvement in Chandra Levy's disappearance and avoided directly answering questions about whether they had an affair.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Why does someone believe you when you say there are four billion stars, but check when you say the paint is wet?

Cffee is ready. Tea for Claude just in case he comes in like he used to!

FWIW, You get the Salmonella from the outside of the shells, not the eggs themselves. Best thing to do is wash the outside of the egg with soap and water. Chickens naturally have Salmonella in their digestive tracts. So there really isn't an 'outbreak' it is always there, the auto-egg washers just didn't get it all off.

Mornin all, Actually got a spit of rain last night, cooled things off nicely.

So hard boiling eggs for 10 or so minutes wont kill Salmonella but a little Dawn will?

Wait, 6 point, is that some kind of plateau code for what normal people call a 12 point.
