License plates?

Why do people black out their license plates when they show a picture of their truck? I am not trying to be funny ,I just don't know what showing your plate # could hurt.

Maybe some individuals still have a factory warrantly left, but have done some modifications that they don't want the dealer to know about???

Just guessing...

With that being said, here's my plate...

Mine says MYT SLOW.

I've read that people do this because others see their plates on the internet and then call the police and say that they saw this vehicle involved in some sort of illegal activity. All I know is that thousands of people see me drive down the road everyday. What more could happen if a couple million more see it on the internet.....

Nugent is the man!

I never thought of the warranty issue or the false police calls. I am still going to show mine. I have nothing to hide. Anyone else have a theory?

I was wondering the same thing, i've seen some crazy thread hi-jacks (guilty of them myself) but at least they at least relate in someway to the OP. As for why people black out their plates, it's the paranoid ones that think big brother is out to get them-LOL, jk. I don't know i never understood it myself.

some people have a lot of expensive mods in there vehicle (anything from stereo equiptment to performance mods), stuff that can be yanked and stolen. some thiefs may put one and one together and look for the vehicle with that license plate if its in there area (or somehow find owner info from the plate #'s). they find your vehicle, or stumble across it and they already know what you have without looking in the window. . . .

not just a theory, i've heard of a lot of guys on cardomain.com talk about this also.

A plate number, a trip to the DMV, and ~$30 will get you a name and address in Virginia.

and probably a whole lot more if you know the right person... just think about all of the information tied to your vehicle registration and you'll understand why people black out their plate number in pictures.

A phone book will get you a name, address, and number for free. And you aint gotta make no trip nowhere. whitepages.com will too.

You can search the yellow/white pages for Shovelhead all you want, you can even look for Ed Anderson, and you'd still come up empty if you're lookin' fer me.
