Re:License Plate Fee's

Thank God they lowered them here a few years ago or I would be paying 6 to 7 hundred, but now its a flat $175.00 per year for the first few then goes down some.

Re:License Plate Fee's

Alpine, <br><br>In Calif. at the time of purchase the selling dealer collects fees for the license as well as sales tax for the state. The sales tax is 7.25% of the selling price. The license for a HD pickup has three parts one is the DMV fee portion approx $30, then the weight portion $150 for my 2500, and third is the personal property tax portion which depreciates over an eleven year period to 0. The total license for my truck was $425 for the first year. <br><br>The DMV issues the license and collects the fees and taxes for the state at the time the application for the license is made. DMV takes out it's portion and sends the remainder to the State Franchise Tax Board.<br><br>The owner is required to have liability insurance on the vehicle and must make the necessary arrangements with an Insurance Agent.<br><br>

Over here we have this organized completely different.

1. You go to the car dealer and pay the pricer ( consumer price including all taxes. ) - Dealer has to give the 16% gas consumption tax and the 20% sales tax to the ministry of finance. If the car has been imported the importer had to pay for the import duties.

2. You call your insurance agent and he will supply you with license plates, a registration etc. Costs about 150 US$ per vehicle.
Then you have to pay your insurance premiums ( at least liability) and taxs to the insurance company- who in turn will dend the money to the ministry of finance.

And how does this work in the US ?

Probably works differently in each state. In Missouri, it works like this--You pay the dealer for the vehicle only. He/she gives you the vehicle, title, and license application.

You take the license application and the title to a Department of Revenue license bureau and write a (big, in the case of a CTD) check for the sales tax. Sales tax is 5.5% for the state plus whatever your county or city adds on to it. In my case, it was around 7% of the total. You also pay the title transfer fee and license plate fee, which for my 12000 lb plates was about $40. You must arrange for your own insurance and provide a card proving it at this time and at plate renewals.

Now the vehicle goes on the tax rolls of your county and they send you a property tax bill each year that must be paid before your plates can be renewed. Based on the amount they had for my 98 1500 gasser, I'm guessing the property taxes will be around $350-400 the first year and will slowly decline, but never to zero as far as I know.

Insurance is separate, and certain liability coverages are required by the state. Collision and comprehensive coverages are normally required by the lienholder if there is a loan on the vehicle, to protect their money. My insurance runs about $1200 year, that's for full coverage, with a replacement-cost rider if the truck were to be totaled and some extra coverage for my add-ons. Insurance costs can vary quite a bit by state, since this is regulated on a state basis.

Re:License Plate Fee's

Annual license/registration fee in the badger state for my 2500 is $77.00, but there is talk of doubling that figure.<br><br>However, state income tax is the fourth highest in the nation, averaging about 13% of one's gross income for the state coffers. <br><br>State fuel tax is also one of the highest, at about 31 cents per gallon. No tollways here, all freeways. Diesel fuel is currently $1.70 per gallon here.<br><br>Sales tax is 5%, with some counties adding a half percent to that. <br><br>I guess each state/country has different tactics on how to extract $$$ from it's residents.

They give each indavidual a tax brake on their personal property when they renew there license each year. The newer the vehicle the bigger the tax cut. Kind of like and incentive to buy a new car or truck. 8) The boat also gives the county a % of their profits to use for improvement for roads, housing, VFDP, Police, and new construction (like a new YMCA). A lot of people were dead set against the Casino boat to even come to the county a few years ago but now they wouldn't know what to do without all the extra money that it has brought to are rule county. : It's kinda like a slap in all those people's faces. <br><br>DB

Re:License Plate Fee's

AlpineRam,

I will try to give an approximate amount since my 2003 is for three vehicles and the 2003 Ram replaced my 98 Ram.

Bodily Injury Liability- $200K each person/$500K each accident
$153
Property Damage each occurance -
$82
UnInsured &amp; Underinsured Motorists - $30K each persoon/$60k each accident -
$22
Medical Payments - $1K per person
$13
Collision - $150 deductible, Actual Cash Value of My Vehicle
$566
Other than Collision (Comprehensive) - $100 deductible, Actual Cash Value of my Vehicle
$187

Total Annual Premium
$1023

The same coverage on my 98 Ram was $678

I live in an area of Calif where the rates are much lower than the Los Angeles or San Francisco Areas. When I moved here from So Calif my were reduced by about 40%.

Re:License Plate Fee's

Here in North Carolina, the cost for a 20,000 lbs tag cost us $242. :'( An 18,000 lbs tag rate is $219. That should cover any weight what we need to pull. ;D<br>See Ya<br>Chris
