Levi Strauss and quality

(flame on)

I have always been an advocate of the principle that "you get what you pay for". That's why I paid over $5,000.00 to get a Cummins engine in my truck. Here is a note that I sent to Levi Strauss recently regarding some jeans that I bought.

"I have worn Levi jeans since I was in high school. I have tried other brands but always went back to Levi for the quality and fit. I am wondering what has happened to the quality. I recently bought several pair of 517's at Sears. Upon arrival at home, I washed them without inspecting them for defects. Inspecting Levis for defects was never something I did before because of the high quality I had come to expect. However, after washing them, I found one of the pairs had a belt loop that was not sewn at one end at all. I took the pair back to Sears and was given a replacement pair without any questions. I got the new pair home and washed them as usual. After taking them out of the wash, I found that the crotch seam is frayed, as if not enough fabric was folded under when it was sewn. They are also a full inch longer than the other pairs of 32x32's that I bought. The tag says 32x32. I am now going to have to take this pair back also. I live in a rural area and it is 43 miles to the nearest Sears store. I know it must seem trivial to you as a large company but having to drive 180 miles to get a good pair of Levis is not what I am used to doing to get the quality I once knew in Levis. I am providing you with very valuable information here. I am in the manufacturing business and place a high value on customer feedback. I assume that Levi Strauss values my input as well. Just thought you would like to know. Please respond to this communication so that I may, at least, know that someone has heard me."

Is quality a thing of the past?

(flame off)
>

I think the overall quality of things manufactured in general have gone down. Most of what you see any more seems to be about how much money can be made in the least amount of time. Case in point would be a comparision of the early 90's Dodge trucks compared to mine. From what I gather, a lot of the little ammenities have not been included in the interest of saving or making money. I am still looking for my rear cup holders..

Re:Levi Strauss and quality

I'd really be interested in knowing if Rattle Rattle ever gets a response from Levi. Hardly a fashion plate, I buy my jeans at Costco, use em' for workpants underneath coveralls and they last for years. Hey they're cheap but they last. Name brand, Kirkland. I did mention I was not a fashion plate, didn't I??
