LASIK/LASEK/PRK/Epi-LASIK
I'm doing my research now for getting the procedure done the beginning of next year. For those of you who have had one of these procedures, which procedure did they recommend for you and why?
If you're nearsighted lasik has a stellar track record. In my case,I was extremely far-sighted with considerable astigmatism. I was one of the first Intra-lase patients and the procedure was done by Dr. Perry Binder in San Diego, a world renown opthamologist. You'll receive about two pages of potential pitfalls that can go wrong. Unfortunately,I experienced several of the pitfalls. I had to wear solar goggles you see the seniors' wear for a week and experienced fluctuating vision, halos and night glare for months. To this day my left eye feels dry and scratchy. If they do monovision correction you can survive without eyeglasses except for extremely small print. If they do distance correction, you're forever seeking out your reader's glasses as many over 45 do. I was told two procedures might be necessary if regression occurs which it did in my case. My doctor and I agreed to not try and improve on nature anymore. The younger you are the more mileage you'll get out of it. My optometrist sees lasik patients come in every week to be fitted for glasses after 5-10 years who had the procedure done in middle age as I did. My vision is greatly improved which is all they can guarantee. In spite of this,I'd probably do it again as I was 20-600 before. Go for it!
I'm going to keep on eye on this thread. haha.
But seriously, im considering this as well. I didn't like the contacts and the glasses are a dang nuisance. I'd like to be able to see a street sign before I drive past it.
Was this an in and out procedure?

I had lasik almost two years ago.
Went from a rough 20/2000 vision to 20/15.
They will tell you all the things that can go wrong.
They dont tell you what you will experience. It doesn't hurt, just REALLY FREAKING WEIRD.
Follow your doctors orders to the letter and you will be fine.

I am scheduled for PRK next month. I am looking forward to it (pun intended)
.
I am really nearsighted (20/500 roughly), and have been wearing glasses for nearly 19 years.
I'll be able to post more about it once I know more in December.

I had PRK done about 2 years ago. The military said to get PRK, due to no chance of the flap ever getting knocked off/around. It was a longer recovery(about a week) and honestly was kind of painful at times, but they gave me drops and painkillers. I went from 20/500 to right about 20/20. I also had slight astigmatism.
Put glasses on in 1964.
Took them off 5 May 2005 for Lasik.
Corrected for distance only. 20/20 now for distance. Do have to have readers. Have them all over the place. But $10 is a lot better for a pair of readers than the $400 to $450 I was paying for glasses.
Dry eyes for the first year. RESTASIS from the doctor did the trick. Use drops once in a while now.
I figure I might have to have an "enhancement" done in the future, as I get older. 54 now and doing fine.
Both I and my wife had our eyes done as an aniversery present. Best money we have spent!
The technology only gets better with time.
