Kick Back On Table Saw
This guy tried to prove a point and almost lost his finger doing so. Treat those table saws with respect or they will bite you. Very stupid thing for him to do but it proves how fast things can go wrong with these machines if you use it in the wrong way without the proper guards in place.
I wish I was as fine, as those who work the pipeline!

Not to be Argumentative, but the guy was not using it properly. Those push blocks are not designed for a table saw anyway, they are for router tables. For a table saw, you use a push stick, 12" or longer and a feather board.
I see his point, but if you don't know how to operate ANY piece of machinery you should step away. I saw an idiot pick up an old makita 1/2" drill ( LOTS OF TORQUE) and break his nose and rip a chunk of his hair out.
FWIW, I too have had a kick back on a table saw, but because my hands were not over the blade all I got was a love tap on the onions.

What an idiot! Push sticks my friend PUSH STICKS!! I would fire one of my guys if I saw them using router pads on a table saw.
One word for this guy in the future. SAWSTOP!!
We have one and so far its been great.

Wow. Does this guy have any gun safety videos??!
The only thing I can say makes this video worth posting is he definitely dodged a bullet and a trip to the ER showing how quickly things can go wrong.
Because of his humble comments at the end I will refrain from any name calling, but wow that was close!!

Speaking of items with lots of torque, at my previous job, one of our "engineers" picked up a angle grinder and was going to massage a metal frame. I asked him if he knew what he was doing and gave me some snotty remark. Well the grinder caught his safety vest and twisted it way almost up to his neck. He tried to hide it, but his finger had the switch stuck on and he screamed like a little girl because every time he moved, it inched closer to his neck. I walked over and unplugged it and saved the day. It could have been a bad situation, but after it was REALLY funny!!!

I agree saw stop best way to go. The guy in video has no common sense. Trying to prove a point he almost looses a finger. I just hope he doesn't attempt making a gun safety video, he may not survive it.

I'm going to come at this with a different angle.
Yes, he purposely did an unsafe act, thinking he could replicate it without too much risk. He found out, and was very clear that he would not have done so if he thought it was going to hurt him. Now, we can set back and say that was stupid, but how many people will now NOT lose fingers, including perhaps this guy. At the end, even this experienced woodworker found his religion.
So yea, even the experienced ones sometimes need a wake-up call.
And yea, saw-stop should be mandatory on any new saw sold......

I just hope everyone that uses a table saw uses all the safety equipment that comes with the saw. Thanks Madhat, I hope everyone learned something here and maybe saved someone from losing their fingers or worse.

Yeah, he was pretty stupid but as has been pointed out, its still good he was willing to post the video. Wonder if he still would have posted it if he had lost a finger.
Some years ago people were saying that they might not handle long term use. Im assuming they proved them wrong.

How does that saw stop work?

seen my dad get clobbered by the table saw , he had a short piece of 2x4 kick back and hit him square in the chest ,knocked the stuffing out of him and once he caught his breath he lifted his shirt to find a perfect 2x4 tattoo right in his sternum . He was a big man (not fat) and after that he never touched the saw again .
