Kerry
I'd like to state that I don't have a preference for any candidate. (And I can't vote on one of them but I have to live with the result)
Regarding this presidential election in the USA and comparing it to the last ones I also watched I think that the style of the confrontations has degraded. Over here I could not make out any real program from one of the candidates. As far as I read over here it's just attacking and mudslinging, especially by the support groups and "celebrities" supporting this or that candidate.
Now for the question: Is this just an observation across the pond or did the style of the run really change?

Marcus, I don't think your observations are far from the mark. There doesn't seem to be all that much good said about any candidates ANYWHERE. All they seem to want to do is tell us how bad the other is for us and yet they don't seem to want to offer up any evidence as to their ability to do whatever the job in which they are trying. If they would quit the mud-slinging and STICK TO THE ISSUES the campaigning would be much much better and make the decision go from picking the "lesser of the evils" to "who would be better".

Lary,
Now I DO think so, you are so right about where and into what state politicians have degraded. Thay do live in a diferent world, sadly enough. And who is to blame? You, I, and most people who allowed it and did not demand better over the years. I know it is not that simple, but it is that real. I wonder what the solution is. If it comes to me, (I doubt it) I'll share I promise.
However about Kerry being a traitor, I don't know, I am reluctant to level such a grave accusation, maybe because I do not know all the facts, but also in light of the fact that President Reagan praised him, and I DO love and respect him.
My intention was not to call you or imply that you are a zealot, if that is the way it felt I applogize, I was just trying to point out in general terms what hatred can possibly do. I have no doubt that you do not wish Mr. Kerry any ill, short of loosing the election and that is fine by me.
I have in the past and will try in the future too, to speak in general terms, I do not know any of the good folks here personaly and it would be totaly wrong to label anyone in any way, merely based on a few posts. We may disagree from time to time, and I am sure agree too, and all is fine if done with respect.

Don't know if this is true or not, but if it is, Kerry's wife make Hillary look like the paragon of conservative virtue...
"Following is a brief background on Mrs.. John Kerry. She hates being
called that, by the way:
Maria Teresa Thiersten Simoes-Ferreira Heinz Kerry. Married Senator
Kerry in 1995. She only took his name eighteen months ago and she is an
"interesting" paradox of conflicts.
If you thought John Kerry was scary, he doesn't hold a candle to his
wife! Maria Teresa Thiersten Simoes-Ferreira Heinz Kerry was born in
Mozambique, the daughter of a Portuguese physician, was educated in
Switzerland and South Africa. Fluent in five languages, she was working as a
United Nations interpreter in Geneva in the mid-60's when she met a
"handsome" young American, H. John Heinz, III, who worked at a bank in
Geneva. He told her his family was "in the food business."
They were married in 1966 and returned to Pittsburgh where his family
ran the giant H. J. Heinz food company. He was elected to the US House of
Representatives in 1971, and in 1976 he was elected to the first of three
terms in the United States Senate. A Republican, he wrote a burning diatribe
against some of the causes backed by young House member John
Kerry.)
Several years later, in 1991, he was killed when his plane collided
with a Sun Oil Company helicopter over a Philadelphia suburb. The senator,
his pilot and copilot, and both of Sun's helicopter pilots were killed. He
was survived by his wife,Teresa, and their three young sons.
Four years later, having inherited Heinz's $500 million fortune, she
married Senator John Forbes Kerry, the liberal then-junior senator from
Massachusetts. She became a registered Democrat and the process of her
radicalization was set in motion.
Heinz Kerry is not shy about telling people that she required Kerry to
sign a prenuptial agreement before they were married. John Kerry may not
have check writing privileges on the Heinz catsup and pickle fortune, but he
is certainly a willing and uncomplaining beneficiary of it.
A lot of hard-earned money, made through many years of hawking catsup,
mustard, and pickles has fallen into the hands of two people who despise
successful entrepreneurship and who believe in the confiscatory
redistribution of wealth.
So how does Mrs.. Heinz Kerry spend John Heinz's money? Just one
example:
According to the G2 Bulletin, an online intelligence newsletter of
WorldNetDaily, in the years between 1995-2001 she gave more than $4 million
to an organization called the Tides Foundation. And what does the Tides
Foundation do with John Heinz's money?
They support numerous antiwar groups, including Ramsey Clark's
International Action Center. Clark has offered to defend Saddam Hussein when
he's tried.
They support the Democratic Justice Fund, a joint venture of the Tides
Foundation and billionaire hate-monger George Soros. The Democratic Justice
Fund seeks to ease restrictions on Muslim immigration from "terrorist"
states.
They support the Council for American-Islamic Relations, whose leaders
are known to have close ties to the terrorist group, Hamas.
They support the National Lawyers Guild, organized as a communist front
during the Cold War era. One of their attorneys, Lynne Stewart, has been
arrested for helping a client, Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman, communicate with
terror cells in Egypt. He is the convicted mastermind of the 1993 World
Trade Center bombing.
They support the "Barrio Warriors," a radical Hispanic group whose
primary goal is to return all of Arizona, California, New Mexico, and Texas
to Mexico.
These are but a few of the radical groups that benefit, through the
anonymity provided by the Tides Foundation, from the generosity of our
would-be first lady, the wealthy widow of Republican senator John Heinz, and
now the wife of the Democratic senator who aspires to be the 44th President
of the United States.
Aiding and supporting our enemies is not good for America, regardless
of your political views.
If voters will open their eyes, educate themselves and see the real
Teresa Heinz Kerry, they will not appreciate her position as ultra rich
fairy godmother of the radical left. They will not want to imagine her
laying her head on a pillow each night inches away from the President of the
United States.
Hopefully they love this country enough to decide that the only way
these two will ever be allowed into the White House is with an engraved
invitation in hand."

As I have said before, it is OK for us to have differing opinions, the world would likely be a very boring place otherwise. The only thing we ask of the members when making a post here, is to make your point, but please do it in a manner that is not a personal attack on another member.
Agree or disagree, it doesn't really matter, what does matter is that we get along. I thank all the posters here for not making it a personal issue, but for keeping it an open discussion, albeit a bit of a touchy one.
We are all after the same thing in the end, just some of us see the way much clearer than others
As a courteous gesture, I wont say which side that is
The news that I receive in Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, and Florida must be far different stuff from what others are getting. I don't even see Bush defending himself on many issues, let alone name calling. While the sKerry bunch acts like a spoiled third grader, calling names, making accusations that are rediculous and degrading the political process.
I also don't hear any real support for sKerry, just hate Bush retoric. And on the military thing, he ended his tour early through the Purple Hearts, never served a tour of duty in Nam.

Funny, wasn't it a democrat that wanted to shut down the Nat'l Forests to anybody not wearing Berkenstock's? I'm not so sure anybody that buys an ORV sticker, snowmobile, etc., would go with Kerry so easily. You were kidding about the NRA, right? Trout Unlimited has probably done more for the environment and water quality than any private organization, open to the puiblic. I can only assume Pheasants forever and Ducks Unlimited are very close behind. Most of these guys tend to lean to the conservative side.
