JPFO ALERT/Canadian Opinion eh
ITs hard to look the other way when this stuff comes up.
Our gun laws are not good at all. They favor the criminal.
I think we may have whats very close to a fed ID now with the way the computers are linked up here.
not long ago there was no picture ID for a drivers, then they went that way and then this bar code was added, then a mag strip to it and our health cards.
Our free health care sure is expensive when we pay our taxes.
The sad part I see up here is many are so dang passive, they just let the gov do what it wants and nothing is ever challenged. One good example is whats going on with our feds right now. Millions wasted on investigating the sponsorship scam that goes way back...and it was millions...and thats only one area. The solution to the gov, call an election and put a different party in...sweep the old under the mat and go round and round again. Nobody is ever held accountable the way the average guy would be if he got caught stealing a fraction of what these folks did.

Scotty, I noticed the very same thing while living in Ontario. The only thing I could figure out was the Liberals didn't want an armed citizenry. Heaven forbid the people actually force the government to toe the line.

And they had a publication ban on some of the testimony, too, hoping no one would find out about it.
I say shoot and ask questions later. Us canadians need gun laws that work.
This is my law that i think might work. If someone breaks into my car, or my house. I shoot him. Period, end of discussion. Someone wants too pick my pocket, i shoot him. Period. Maybe ppl will understand a little better than "you were remanded for a week, time served". That is total bull poo poo.
Never mind gun control, 100% of the guns that were registered are not involved in crimes. So what good is our 3 billion dollars in this program other than too hire welfare cases?? Exactly.
I know my views are pretty out there, but put this in perspective.
A guy broke into my house, pointed his 9mm at my head. I break his arm, and cuff him. (My grandpa was chief of police in Deloraine, Manitoba). I call the cops. I get charged and convicted with aggravated assault, charged with unlawful confinement (beat this one in court because my dad heard me tell the guy i was making a citizens arrest) and charged and convicted with handling an un-registered firearm. Granted these convictions are no-longer on my record (fully pardonned). But the aggravation of this is amazing. All this and the guy got charged and convicted with aggravated assault. He got time served because he was remanded for 3 weeks.
Were is the charge for attempted murder?? Or violation of human rights?? There was NONE.
It isnt the gun laws that need changing, its the bloody law itself!!
BTW I personally own 12 rifles, 6 shot-guns, and 22 pistols.
Sorry for rambling, just thought i would shoot my mouth off.

Dang Scotty - Maybe I wouldn't have bought your product if I knew you were so 'radical'! (Kidding! Best thing out there actually!).
Hey, I don't want to debate 'gun control' or various laws. I have no problem with the Canadian system. I do think the USA goes way too far in interpreting the "right to bare arms"....Those few words have been interpreted to mean a LOT! and I think a LOT more than they were ever INTENDED to mean...
Yes this gun registration program in Canada has cost a FORTUNE, but much of that cost has been related to the anti-gun law groups and lobbys that have basically tied the program up for years with what they've done to 'protest' these new laws with crap & costing ALL the tax payers a LOT of cash, even though every poll shows that a vast majority of Canadians support the program - Is that democracy? Abuse a program, cost the majority that agrees with it tons of tax dollars, and call it 'protesting'?
And please don't bash our medical system!! Yes, its not perfect, but its 1000 times above the USA system. What I think they need to do is crack down on the abusers who are showing up at doctors offices/emergency rooms on a weekly (or daily) basis because they can... That kinda goes with the 'protesting' I mentioned before - If there was a minority of people out there that wanted a different health care plan, would it be proper for them to arrange 'protests' where they encourage people to fill the doctor's offices & ER's on a daily basis with BS concerns, costing us ALL a lot of money in order to 'protest'?
I'm 36, and up until recently, I hadn't been to see a doctor for a medical problem since I was 21. It needs to be serious and REQUIRE a doctor before I'm going to go. If more people would do that, then I think our health care costs would be reduced drastically. I'm also not opposed to user fees to try and reduce the abuse.

And Scotty wasn't bashing the healthcare system, he was bashing the taxes it takes to keep the system running. It's a sad state of affairs when working overtime doesn't pay because it immediately tosses you into a higher tax bracket and the extra pay isn't worth the tax bite.
And before you jump in my case, I lived in Ontario for 5 years. I know full well what I'm talking about.
Both W5 & CBC have done investigative reports into the 'protests' and how this is causing the costs to sky rocket...
Hey I didn't say it - Just repeating what I hear!
I'm a fisherman, not a hunter so I don't know nutin about guns!
And I'm not going to jump on anyone - Other than Scotty 'cuz I was just dealing with him & he told me that my old pic. of me & my 68 GTO that I sent him was near idential to one he has - and he even said we were wearing the SAME shirt!!

My thoughts on the National ID card exactly, Tom! I'm glad I could finally make you see things my way.
(Only it must be realized that the government isn't acting as its own entity by attempting to control its populace; rather, the populace is working from the grass-roots level in attempts to control itself. There's no major power-hungry conspiracy on the governments behalf, as most people think when they start complaining about the 'big bad EvIl government'.)

As for health care, my brother lives in the US and if you have good insurance - the American system is much better. Sure, it costs more - but at least you get some service. To have minor surgery done in the US it usually takes 1-4 weeks - the same procedure in Canada could keep you on a waiting list for 12-18 months....how is THAT better?

I think yer changing things a bit.
You did look rather mod in that pic and after I said that I thought..."Uhoh what if that pic was taken yesterday? Not in 1977."HAHAH
Healthcare here is not good when someone has to wait. Here is an example...my step dad complains of hip pain and crunching to his doctor that is a specialist in Rheumatoid arthritis way back in 2000. The doc tells him its the arthritis and cranks up his meds. No X ray nuttin.
So then Jack cannot stand up very good or drive and this is after another year goes by where he is complaining more and more about the pain and lack of mobility. Jack goes to another doctor who gets an x ray and shows the hip is luxated [sp?] and looks shattered. They send him back to the specialist! He does nothing but tell Jack he has seen worse and take more meds. Now Jack is taking Morphine like candy, his health is worse and my mother is doing double duty around the house to keep things rolling.
Not until I see the orthopedic surgeon that fixed my bi ceps tendon do we get some action on his behalf...keep in mind its now 2004 when I am seeing the doc about a tear in my left knee.
The surgeon calls the family doc and gets the xrays and says we need a referral. I call the rheumatoid docs office and tell them the scoop and that they need to process this as urgent.
They say oh yeah we'll get right on it. I was promised the paper would be on the surgeons desk by the end of the day. Well, after 11 phone calls over 30 days we got the same story from the same gal. So I called the surgeon and he met us at the hospital and reviewed the x rays I brought of Jacks hip. He was VERY mad because the hip was destroyed. Within 3 weeks after that appointment the other doc tells Jack he needs a hip replacement...Uh...no kidding. Then he tells him its going to take 24-36 months to get in. Jack was using a walker, could not drive and was falling lots.
So we go back to the surgeon and he calls in a vascular specialist and they find an artery is impinged in the debris of the hip and Jack had an aneurysm in that artery above the hip!
Jacks right foot has black toes and is cold. Jack said he told the other doctor about it and he ignored his complaint.
Jack was now almost too ill for the surgery!
The surgeon calls the next day and says they have an opening in March of 2005. Its Feb now anyway so its not far off. A heck of a lot closer then 2-3 yrs out.
Jack goes in for the surgery and it gets canceled because there are no beds even though he is booked urgent! So my mom takes him back home, calls the media and REALLY stirs it up.
I should mention she worked in this field most of her life until she retired in 04.
The surgeon is mad about this too and even calls me to explain the problem and he wants the media to know also.
Jack gets a call the next week, goes in for surgery and all is well. But take a look at how much time was wasted. The stress, the extra damage etc etc.
Our healthcare has little to praise.

See the difference is that in Canada if you need protection you have to sneek and hide it, where I can carry mine legally. Generally anyone who would register his weapon is not a threat to society, so why register them? Canada will probably follow the lead of Austrailia, they got it all figured out.
