John Deere R model diesel starting motor piston

Well, pulled the right head off the starting motor and looks like it broke a ring and popped a hole in the piston. Not a good thing. Anyone got any good parts suppliers for pistons?
Sent an e-mail to Dennis Polk and one other place so far.
When it rains, it pours.

Talking Pony Parts

Joel;
Call Albert Ulrich at Renaissance Tractor in Chehalis, Wa. If anyone has it he probably will. He had the Clutch drive disc that i have been searching for for my G and he is very reasonable and great to work with. 1-800-784-0026. We just got back from Sea and i missed the Round up. Hope it went well.

Hey Eric, good to have you back. The round up went very well even with the weather like it was.

I've got two e-mails out now for parts. If they don't pan out, I'll give ALbert a call.
If you get unbusy in the near future, let me know. I'll load this pony up in the truck and bring it in your way and draft your help to get it rebuilt. The one cylinder is scarred up, may have to bore it. Got a machine shop lined up for that already. I want to make sure of that before I order pistons and rings too. I want to get this thing going again before the diesel side goes bad.

Polk is a good place to start...that guy know his Deere's

If you can't locate one, I can do some checking to see if Dad knows of anyone else!!

Don't you just love Pony motors?
Good luck with her,

I know Polk will have it but he is really proud of his stuff if you know what I mean.
I ordered a starter cover for a 60 Orchard about six years ago from him. Now if you don't know what a starter cover for a 60 O looks like, it is a flat piece of 1/16 inch steel about 6 inches by 14 inches with about eight holes drilled in it. I ordered a radiator fan shroud at the same time and the bill was over $200 if I remember right. And the stuff was all rusted and had to be blasted and painted before I could use it.
The law of supply and demand definately applies here. He's got it, you need it, pay up or shut up.

Luckily, we don't play much with Green stuff...just an AR and a 60 Standard

But we go to Dennis' sales a lot, and have for 20 years, so... His prices aren't the only ones that are high, that applies everywhere But if you're gonna do something, might as well do it right once, right??

YEP. Especially as much of a PITA as it is to get this complete pony off the main engine.
I miss my 60's. That O was awsome with a straight 3 1/2 inch stack on it.

I don't know if you tried to contact 2-cylinder plus, but you can give them a try. I would also try Wengers in Myerstown, PA. http://www.wengers.com/

Just think, it could be worse, it could be the crappy little V-4 they had. Those I have parts for, but nothing for the 2 cylinder one on the R.

I'm not completely sure, but I think one of the Cat pony motors might have the same piston in it, but they are probably just as expensive.

Did you try John Deere? Its worth a shot, you never know. Bought brand new G valves for $20 more than they wanted for used ones. A bargain IMO.

I gotta call JD tomorrow and get a gasket set, AR715R, for the pony motor. I am going to ask about pistons too just for a laugh. I was amazed at how much stuff was still available when I reworked to top end of my 60 O.
